Granite counter top question

We finally stepped out of the 80's and are redoing our kitchen. Last week we had granite counter tops installed and over the weekend I noticed that when water is on the counter it leaves a stain/mark until it dries. This makes me kind of nervous since our installer did not mention this happening. They said they sealed it but I am kind of freaked out. We got rid of white laminate because I was tired of dealing with stains and scrubbing it all the time. The last thing I want is to stain my tan granite with red wine.  In my searching online I read that this could be normal or it could mean the counter top is not sealed properly which is not really helpful.

Wise women of J12 who have granite counter tops-is this normal and have you seen this happen?

Re: Granite counter top question

  • @jinxyjane Thanks. I am going to call the installer tomorrow. I notice the stains near the sink or from the sweat of a glass and is after 30ish minutes.

  • @Trixie282 I just called and they assured me it was sealed twice. They seal it in the warehouse and then they sealed it when they installed it (I did see the installer spray stuff on it). We used a local store who cuts and installs the granite. She claims that it is because it is a light color (it is tan/goldish with some dark flecks) that it is standing out more. She also said that it will not stain unless I leave something red wine sitting on it for days. We will see what happens.
