Quick Carseat Question

I'm sorry to ask yet another carseat question! I'm hoping someone might have some advice. With our new daycare place my parents are going to be doing some of the pickups for us (once or twice a week) and I'd like to buy a carseat for them to keep. They'd prefer not to have the seat live in their backseats all the time and they'll be switching it between cars anyway depending on who's doing the pick up. Any suggestions on a convertible seat that's easy to install? I have a big guy at 29lb, 34ins last appointment. Thank you so much!!

Re: Quick Carseat Question

  • Do you have a budget? I think that most people will say Nextfit is the easiest to install. I have an Evenflo Sureride which is a lot cheaper than the nextfit. I found the instal not too difficult. Both these seats have long lasting height/weight limits.

Thank you! I'll start looking those up.  I'm willing to invest in whatever seat since I suspect they'll continue to use it for years to come with this and future kids.

Consider weight. My nextfit is very heavy. Moving it from car to car, or taking it in and out is a PITA, IMO.

This. I don't mind moving my nextfit every now and then but it's heavy so I hate doing it all the time. If they will be moving it a lot then I'd look into a lighter one unless they don't mind it being heavy.

I don't think the SureRide is that heavy, but it is very big and awkward. IMO no matter which seat, regularly moving a convertible seat in and out of car is going to be a PITA and not worth the hassle.

This is how I feel too but I get why the logistics make it the best solution for them. I'm also glad I won't be the one doing it.
  • I'm hoping that as things get settled and we all fall into our new routines (probably after we finally move) there won't be too much actual carseat moving after all for that exact reason, it's one of the reasons I'm more interested in an easy to install carseat then a light/non-bulky carseat.
  • Thanks! I understood what you were saying and didn't think it was snarky. This whole thing isn't really my favorite option but at the moment it's the least of all evils so I'm going to just do everything I can to make it work. They have both had practice now installing our carseat and have listened to all of our adjustments etc. so at least I do trust them to keep it all in mind when they install. Hopefully I'm able to get a job closer to home to make this a non-issue soon! Thank you for the carseat talk though, its really helpful.
  • Are you/your parents open to meeting with a tech so they can learn how to install the seat? That will give you more options and people typically listen to other people more than their "over protective kids" lol

How much are you looking to pay? What car make model and year do they have?

That's a great idea! I'll track one down nearby and we can all go talk to them about installs, I'm sure they'll still think I'm being overprotective but you're right that they'll take it better from an outside person.

I don't have a set price in mind, I don't want to take out of a mortgage or anything but if it's on the more expensive side I'm willing to make the investment since I know they'll get a lot of use out of it.  They drive a ford SUV and a Lexus sedan. I drive a 2006 Honda Odyssey that it might occasionally be put in.
