30 weeks and we are head down

Hi ladies -

Just had my 30 week visit today and my little lady is officially head down. I have been having lots of Braxton Hicks contractions. My midwife said if there's more than 4 in an hour to call them....

She also said she'd like see me go atleast another month before I go into labor. Not sure if this means she thinks I'll be early. My son was born a little before 39 weeks so I'm not sure what to expect this time.

Definitely feeling A LOT of pressure down there and chronic back pain but nothing too serious...

I'm very anxious for her to arrive but this is still a bit to early for my comfort. Not sure if I'm dilated or effaced yet, my midwife didn't check me today.

Anyone else head down?

Re: 30 weeks and we are head down

  • I was at 29 weeks and they didn't seem worried.  They told me that there's still time for them to move around in there.  When I hit 30 last week, I read that any time from here on out they might get into position.

  • That's great, hope she stays that way! I've been having a lot of BH's as well, hoping my LO doesn't come too early either.
  • Yeah for 30 weeks!! I am almost at 30 and baby is still side to side. The baby is still flipping around often, so we'll see.
  • Yay! I am head down as well. But I was transverse last week, and the doc said baby can still do somersaults.

  • They have said he was head down since my appointment at 26 weeks, still was at my 30 week as well. It always amazes me that they can tell that just by feeling. Let's hope none of our head down babies get some last minute flips in. Also, what do the hiccups feel like? I haven't felt any (that I'm aware of) is it something you would definitely know when you feel it?

Rhythmic, and not as strong as a kick or anything. Like tapping.

  • I asked at my last appointment and was told that the babe can still move until around 36 weeks, and that since I have a long torso it could be even longer before he is settled. Yikes.
  • I was told my OB likes to do US at 34 weeks because there's still some flexibility to move them around at that point if they aren't in the right position and I am inferring they don't pay much attention to position in their practice before that.  I am about 31 now and still feeling like our little one is doing not-especially-graceful somersaults most evenings.

  • Yay! Let's hope baby stays head down! Mine is def transverse and has been for awhile. Baby's head hits my ribs often or feels like s/he is trying to bust out my side. Makes me feel weird if I lie down on that side... Like I'm squishing his/her head.

  • I'm 31 weeks and she's been head down for quite some time. I can tell where her head is when she gets hiccups. My doc didn't seem concerned.
  • I'm 30 wks and head down. I'm having lots of pressure as well! Stay put babies!

  • A head down baby and Braxton hicks contractions are not signs that labor will start any time soon.

  • I'm curious how you all know the position of your baby?? How does your doctor determine this? Think someone mentioned just by feeling? My doctor hasn't mentioned anything about this or checked. Guess I will ask next week?
  • We are head down here and 1 cm dilated. Had a pre term labor scare this weekend, that's the only reason I know how much I've dilated.

I was head down at 24 weeks when I had a cervix check bc of Braxton hicks. Ob said she could feel his head and my cervix was anterior. But hasn't been an issue so far. I have an "irritable uterus" so I understand!

I had horrible irritable uterus with my first pregnancy. I mean HORRIBLE! I couldn't even walk up the stairs without my uterus completely seizing up. Was in bed rest by 32 weeks. This time, my uterus only goes into contractions when I take my calcium/magnesium supplement. I don't know if it is linked but thought I'd share if you want see if skipping the supplement helps! Maybe it is just a fluke.?

For me the midwife just feels around on my belly and then can confirm by where they find the heartbeat with the Doppler.
  • My little guy was still flipping around like crazy at yesterday's appointment. I don't think he's going to hold one position until he runs out of room!

My little girl is head down and short cervix. Having 2nd steroid injection today for her lungs to help them mature in case she comes early. Trying to keep her in - grow babies grow. <3 Love and light to everyone forgot to mention will be 31 weeks Sunday :)
  • Mine is diagonal but there is no concern. She was head down at the 28 weeks appt. Our OB/ MW doesn't even check this early because they said she can still flip around a lot. I asked out of curiosity so they checked. I have been getting BH more than I can remember with DD also.

Yeah, I have trouble too sometimes.  I feel hiccups down low, so that makes me think his head is down, but I get really good jabs in my sides when I'm laying on my side at night.  Still feel him rolling too, I think.
