Yikes! That doesn't sounds like fun at all. Never heard of anyone being on it either. Is it something that your doctors think you will need to be on all pregnancy?
Yes, when I was a creepy bald kid. On occasion it is going to make you itchy, make sure you give the bag/container a really good shake if you're self administering. I ate popsicles & hard candy to help with the stomach pain, you may or may not experience this.
I'm just wounding what to expect I just got my stuff last night how long do women have to use it for can't ask my doc he's never dealt with it before
Well, the length of time one needs to be on TPN is individualized. It just depends on how long it takes before you can maintain adequate nutrition on your own. Also, at the hospital we do daily blood work to make sure the pts are getting all the vitamins and minerals they need and the mixture is adjusted daily based on that bloodwork. I would imagine you won't be getting that daily, but I would expect maybe weekly blood draws (?).
I'm sorry you are having to go through this. Hopefully it won't last long past the first trimester!
Oh, also, be very careful with your picc line and make sure it is covered properly for showers and the dressing should be changed regularly by a trained professional (I assume you have home health seeing you?). You don't want to get an infection on top of all of this. (Not trying to scare you, it's just important).
Yes I was on TPN for both my living boy and girl. It was due to my severe hg and needed a PICC line. Injected a bag of white "food" in that line for 12 hours at night as well as phenergan, zofran, and all vitamins I couldn't take because even water came up. This pregnancy is MUCH different...thank God. Make sure to keep the area of insertion of line clean because if it gets infected they'll have to do another one and it's no fun. Good luck!

Yes I'm in the same boat can't even keep water down
Re: TPN?
My only guess is this is for epically bad HG?
Totally Presumptuous Narcissism
Truly Pedantic Nepotism
Teenage Pathetic Necking
Tingling Painful Nipples
Totally Perplexing Newbs

And OP is right, it is parenteral, even though that sounds like a made up word :P
