Baby girl Was just prescribed this for silent reflux. The instructions say just to give it to her by mouth twice a day. However when I gave her the first dose she hated it and spit a lot of it out. Those of you that are using it, how do you give it?
Super slowly .1ml at a time. It takes like 5 minutes and he isn't thrilled with the taste but we haven't had too much spillage.
I don't understand why they can't flavor it differently than peppermint. Babies don't like it, even our pediatrician said they never like it. He loves the gas drops (grape flavor).
We had ours flavored grape and it didn't make a difference. I do the opposite of herecomesthesun and do it all in one quick shot. Usually I get her all ready to breastfeed, hold her up, and then shoot it as far back into the side of her check as I can. I then either latch her on quickly so she will start to swallow and wash away the taste.
We split it up .25ml at a time and aim it to the far back of her cheek. She hates it but it's been 3 weeks of using it and it's getting better now with minimal spit up and crying.
I got our refill flavored grape and it helped. He either takes it very slowly willingly or I slowly squirt it in his cheek and blow in his face to get him to swallow. He's been on it for almost 6 weeks and it's getting easier to give it to him.
Oh man, I tried to squirt a lot more, then throw him on the boob- that was a comedy of errors. We lost all of the medicine and it was sticky and all over me + milk. Yay.
Back to smaller squirts for us.
@weeklyplanner nope- our doc told us that the key was to get the dose in slowly and nurse right away.
reviving this thread for a related question I have for you ladies... Are you trying to space the two daily doses about 12 hours apart or am I overthinking this?
We were told to space the doses 12 hours but that doesn't always happen. ..it's hard! Doctor didn't say anything about when to give it in regards to feeding but I either try to give it a while before or after feeding so he keeps it down. So far, he has only been on it 5 days but I haven't noticed a huge difference. Of course, he also just got diagnosed with a milk protein allergy and many of the symptoms are the same, ugh. Why does everything have to be so difficult?!
Im not so nice and patient. I squirt most of it in (now she's on 1.5 ml does because of her size) and blow in her face to make her swallow all of it. It works every time. Then we nurse or do something positive. I also give her gas drops right after which are better flavored than the peppermint so she takes them better.

Our pediatrician said it didn't necessarily have to be exactly at 12 hours as over time, the medication builds up. We sometimes cave an hour or so before the next dose, especially in the evening as it seems he's really uncomfortable again.
We're having trouble with LO spitting it out lately. I asked pedi about that too and the response was, "Have you tried it? It's pretty bad." Ha! I had to laugh. At least that was an honest reply. It is horrible tasting. Poor LOs.
The Walgreens website has a Yuck Factor and flavoring guide for medicine. They suggest doing grape but it also has the very highest yuck factor. In my opinion the grape helped a little but it's still nasty!
@SherryBaby2014 , most babies metabolize it in 8 to 12 hourshours, so if you've got a faster metabolism you'll probably need three doses daily. But many babies will be OK with twice daily
Re: Ranitidine/Zantac
I go support slow too. And she doesn't like it. I wish it was one of those meds that was passed through milk, so I could take it and just fed her!
