"Mine!"

Has anybody else's sweet toddler been taken over by this word?

Re: "Mine!"

  • Not yet. "NO!" is still one of his favorite words here.

  • Yes unfortunately!  DD has 3 cousins that are slightly younger than her and that she sees just about everyday.  We have to constantly remind her to share.

  • This has been in DDs vocabulary for about 3 months, but has been far more prevalent recently. Last night she was telling me that the tub was hers. Like, repeatedly. I was like "okay, kiddo". Haha.

  • Not yet. However, at the zoo the other day he continued to shake his finger and say "NO" to any other child that walked over to the exhibit we we looking at. It really surprised me because he is usually very good at "sharing" and because he didn't even have an item to share. It was an exhibit for goodness sake. Oh toddlerhood!

  • We are heavy into "mine" and "No no NO!" accompanied by the shake of the finger.  I know it's normal, but I have to admit I cringe a little to myself every time she says this stuff in public!

  • Yes, thank you daycare lol. I have to say I was a little surprised when I walked by the toddler room (before she was in it) and heard one of the care givers sturnly saying to one of toddlers "that's mine now, no that's mine". We tried really hard to say "oh that's not for A, that's Daddy's" or such. She also says NO perfectly also. It is so cute to hear her say, until she uses it appropriately lol.

  • Ours is just "No" or my favorite, "nope (which she says with an F on the end, like Nopf).  No to everything.  Do you want ice cream?  Nopf.  Do you love Mommy?  Nopf.

  • Yep, he just started in the past couple weeks. It's totally my fault; I always say it when he tries to take my phone. Fortunately, he doesn't say it that often. Probably because he's not in daycare or around a lot of other kids and doesn't feel the need to compete.

  • Oh yes. Except it's not just one Mine. It's more like mine-o-mine-o-mine-o-mine-o-mine!

  • I don't if any of you get the books from Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, but one of them is called the "Mine-o-saur".  It's been one of DS's favorite's for about 6 months, so when ever he starts to say, "mine," I say, "Uh-Oh!  Is there a mine-o-saur in here?"  DS is usually very quick to say, "no, I not a mine-o-saur."  But I agree, this comes up at daycare all the time.

DS is at a home DC, and there are three 3 year olds and three 1 year olds.  DS is the oldest of the 1 year olds (all boys, don't ask me how they do it!), so he's often trying to play with the older boys, and I see them all the time take things from DS because they're bigger, so unless he's being "bratty" about not sharing, I don't always stop the "mine"-stuff because there are times where it's important for him to stand his ground.

It's the same with when he says, "go away."  If he's saying it to DH and I because he doesn't want to do what we're going to do, such as, come in from outside, we correct it/give an alternative.  But there is a boy at DC who has an early diagnosis of ADHD (I use this as the clinical term, and no they can't officially diagnosis until he's a bit older, but the dr's, parents, and DC are working together to create a safe environment for everyone), and he'll get right up into DS's face shouting, arm's waving, or just plain knock him over because he just can't control his body, and DS will tell him to "go away."  We're working on teaching him, "space please," but hey, the kid does need to assert himself when he's feeling his space is being violated, and "go away," is what he has in his vocabulary right now.
Me: unexplained infertility - annovulatory DH: testicular cancer survivor!! TTC since June 2009 BFP May 11, 2012 EDD January 24, 2013 June 1, 2012 - first u/s, heartbeat 124 BPM!! Welcome to the world my miracle, we prayed and prayed for you, and we can't believe you're here!
  • Lol! DD only did it for a few days and seemed to give up.

She'd take something, run to a corner and shout "mine mine" but it didn't last long. Maybe it'll come back once she starts school though.
  • J just started this late last week. I hate it already!! Everything I go to put into the shopping cart he wants and says "MINE!" and if I don't give it to him...he whines.

    Henry Cavill...You're welcome!
