Formula Question

LO's daycare requires her bottles to be already made. I will do that the night before and they will go from my fridge to the daycares.

Today they asked if she had an ounce or more after she ate left if I wanted it saved.

Can formula be heated, drank from, put back in fridge, and reheatdd again to eat later?

All I know is formula is good for one hour out room temp and 24 hours in the fridge.

Any thoughts. I do have her on super expensive $30 a can formula and I'd love to not waste any if I can. Because right now she is a little unpredictable on her oz intact each feed and I would rather her have extra than not enough.

  • It supposedly only good for one hour after being put to the baby's mouth. Because of potential bacteria growth. So I wouldn't save it if I were you. Can you put less in each bottle and leave a can there and ask if she finishes a bottle and wants more to please add a little more? Will they do that?
  • Can't reheat. Toss after an hour. Yep.
  • I'd chuck it.

I wouldn't reuse it unless she snacks like 20min later. Could you send in big bottles and have them pour off as she needs? Example- she eats 16oz while there. Send 2 full 8oz bottles premade, then 3-4 empty bottles (4, 6 oz, whatever). If she usually eats 3oz at a time, they can pour it into an empty. If she wants 4, they pour an extra ounce, but at least she didn't now drink from two 3oz bottles and waste the extra 2oz!

I imagine they don't want to be responsible for mixing the powder, and this way they're not, but there is maybe less waste until she gets consistent? I did this with my EBM all 10 months my son was in DC, I sure as hell wasn't wasting that! I'm sure you feel the same with nutramigen!

  • Thanks ladies. The internet is saying no to reheating.

I don't think they will mix her formula unless they HAVE too. I think its a regulation from the state. She should only eat 3 times max (6-7hrs) daycare day and that's if she eats every two hours. So I think I'll make 2 4oz bottles and 2 3 oz....
