I've read in multiple places that if you sing a song to baby while pregnant the baby will recognize and even be soothed by the song when born. This is ADORABLE to me because my mom said when she was pregnant with me, she used to sing my name all the time and when I was born crying she sang it to me. I immediately started looking around for my mama. She's told me this story many times and I've always loved it. Lately I've been thinking about what I should sing to my baby. Any other moms here going to sing a song consistently to their baby? What song do you plan on singing?
Re: When baby can hear
I have a friend who picks a piece of classical music for each child and plays it to them in the womb. I might do that too! I'm partial to Renaissance polyphony. Perhaps some Vittoria or Purcell?
2) Sail Away. Eleanor Locke. Has 155 folk songs.
3) 150 American Folk Songs. Peter Erdei.
4) The Book of Children's Song Tales. Also John Feierabend. I sing these to my first graders often.
If you can't read music, I'm pretty sure the Feierabend series offers CDs for some of their stuff.
Those are just a few.
Also- nerd alert - I may or may not be learning Let It Go on my new ukulele so that I can sing it to my belly later. It's really pretty with ukulele.
We've also already started buying our favorite children's books because my DH and I want to read a book each night to the baby too. I just think it will be a special time we can share and connect with the baby every day.
My plan is to start next month with positive (non potty) words & relaxing music for the baby to enjoy
My DH was ALWAYS talking to DS when I was pregnant with him and after he was born and crying like crazy, DH picked him up and started talking to him and he just calmed right down. It was adorable!!
Months later we were in the car and it came on. He definitely recognized the song and was jamming along to it.
I also just recently listened to a TED talk about how babies instinctively prefer their mom's voice and gravitate towards it. So amazing.
