Tips for pumping on the go?

I have a unique work situation where I work only 2 days per week, but they are massively long days and I'll need to do a fair amount of pumping. To make things even more awkward, most of my work is in schools (elementary and high school) so I'm thinking I'll have to be creative in finding places to pump and can imagine I'll be doing a lot of it in the car. Lovely, I know.

So any tips for pumping when constantly on the go? Any accessories or gear I should stock up on? I have the most basic Medela pump from insurance: personal double electric. No tote bag or anything.

Re: Tips for pumping on the go?

  • DH got my car windows tinted really dark for our anniversary. Now I don't feel awkward pumping in the car. I also got another diaper bag to haul my pump and parts around since I have the basic pump as well.

  • I pump in my car and we haven't gotten my windows tinted yet so I use sun shades
  • I used to pump while driving! Prob not super safe but....

I used a nursing cover to cover myself. A hands-free bra is a must! Pump into bottles and transfer to bags later. Bring a small cooler bag with you.

  • Pump and drive was the only way for me!

Use hands free and a cover.  I went through drive thru pumping all the time.  Nobody. cares.

Also, get the car adapter for the pump.  The battery pack stinks.
What did you use to hold the pumps?
  • How do you clean everything in these situations?

I got cheap bra's from target and cut vertical slits in the cups to hold the pump funnels so that I could be hands free. If you were going to do this versus buying a pumping bra, maybe try to find a bra that clasps in the front so that getting it on/off is easier. Or check out Freemies!! https://www.freemie.com/ If I was going to continue EPing after going back to work I would be getting some of these babies. The $60 set are compatible with most pumps and the kits can come with everything you need. I love the idea of them being so discrete. I think they say the only drawback is that it makes your bust stick out way far.

  • Get a cover, a good pumping bra (that clasps or zips in the front), and the car adaptor and you'll be good to go :) Oh, and a cooler to store your milk.

  • The cleaner wipes they sell to clean on the go. Nursing cover, cooler, hands free bra. I work out of my car so when I go back in 2 weeks this is my only option. Plus the car tint also helps! :)
  • Cooler for your pump parts so you don't have to clean them in between, and the pumped bottles. I never transferred milk to bags except in my home, it always stayed in bottles until I was done work, 8 or 24hrs later. Plus safe time, no transfer, just screw on cap and done. Ditto the car adaptor, I felt suction was better with AC power than the batteries
