Face down panic!!

OMG LO finally learned to roll back to belly and now does it mostly in the crib. After his MOTN feeding last night he cooed for ten minutes then fell asleep, I went to check on him and he fell asleep on his belly! Before he had been crying every time he was on his belly. Then this morning I heard him move around and when I check he was belly down, with his face directly down into the bed resting his cheeks on his hands. On top of all this he has a cold and is all stuffed up. Needless to say I'm panicking a bit!!! What should I do? I'm thinking I'm gonna go buy a video monitor after work, suggestions for brands of those in the lower cost range? Can I tuck a sheet into the crib over his legs so he doesn't turn? Just the site of him face down sent shivers through me!!!

Can he roll from belly to back? When Liam started to roll, he did this - I think he likes having his face covered (because he'll also grab our hand and cover his face if he's getting tired). It freaked me out at first, but after watching him, keeping a hand on his back to feel his breathing, I'm relaxed about it.

My kidlet has been sleeping face down since we ditched the swaddle at almost four months. It was stressfull at first, but it's the only way he'll sleep.

He can not roll from belly to back yet. Hopefully he learns that quickly. For now I suppose I will just not sleep :-)

I find mine like this from time to time, but he loves to sleep on his belly now, and he can roll both directions in his sleep, so after about a week of worrying, I've gotten accustomed to it.

Yeah my LO just started rolling around in her sleep this week. On the plus side she seems to sleep much better on her tummy

Are their faces pointed out at least? This morning his was smooshed into the bed, don't even know how that could be comfy or how he could breathe.

Yes mine turns her head to one side or the other, even if its just slightly.

My LO has been sleeping on his belly almost every night now, but he does have his face pointed out. He also has a cold, and that doesn't seem to bother him too much, just leaves a lot of snot on his sheets. I worried a lot at first, but have become used to it now.

My DD1 did this and we just let her sleep on her belly. She would do the face down thing too, with and without a cold. She was fine. Like PP said, it takes some getting used to. Oh, she could not roll belly back when she began this.

Not all the time. He's a big fan of burying his face in his hands.

Often he's completely face down (on his hands) at first, while he's getting comfortable, then his face is pointed out.

Similar to PP - My LO just started doing this over the weekend! She rolls from back to front and then gets stuck since she's not going front to back yet. Usually she will just fall back asleep though but I'm one worried momma when I randomly wake up and see my little girl on her tummy. Unfortunately, I have a second of.. omg my kid is not breathing. Then I stare at the screen to see if her tummy is moving. Just something I'm going to have to get used to!

Well it's reassuring to hear lots of lo's are doing the face down on the hands cuz that really freaked me out! I can imagine my blood pressure will continue to rise the older my kid gets with all this stuff but man, this stuff is stressful!!

Mine also started tummy sleeping this week! So far I haven't been brave enough to let it last at night - I've done a dream feed and put him back down on his back, but he's done a number of naps tummy down. I'm about ready to let him just sleep how he wants, now that I've gotten to watch him on his tummy more, but l'm still a bit freaked about it.

I'm VERY paranoid about this too, but our little girl does the same thing. As a matter of fact she was face down, with her little cheeks resting on her hands last night and she is totally congested as well.

But we ditched the swaddle when she started rolling over onto her belly even while she was in the swaddle - talk about things that freak me out!

We have an angel care monitor and that's about the only thing that makes me relax...b/c I don't think I'm going to be able to see that she's stopped breathing over a video monitor.

And honestly, our kids are probably safe b/c they are doing this themselves, so there's also that to keep in mind.

I always lay DD down on her back but she rolls right to her tummy now. My pedi said if she can get there by herself she's fine.

Yep mine sleeps on his belly face down. Sometimes either side but a lot of the time face down. It's weird to get used to. And and still just touch him sometimes when he's asleep like that and it wakes him enough that he turns it but stays asleep.

My LO started doing the same thing the minute he learned how to roll over.

I dont roll him back over unlesss he cries or wants back over. usually he will end up on his side.

I do have a video monitor though. It was 99 bucks i believe at walmart, it is lorex baby sweet peek.

i doubt a sheet tucked over him would work and also could be dangerous if he got it loose

Do any of you use the halo sleep sack? Any dangers with this and them rolling all over? He seems to be fine so far.
