LO's favorite toys?

What toys are your LO's in love with right now? I feel like DD is bored with the toys we have now. I want to take a trip to the big resale store we have tomorrow, but wondered if there was something everyone loved.

  • DD loves her play kitchen!  Her other favorite toy is a spare toddler-sized mattress we keep in her play area.  She bounces on it, we tilt it up on the back of the couch and use it as a climbing wall or a slide, etc.  A HUGE hit.

This is DD exactly! Thanks for starting this thread!
Our little Samosa arrives in January!
  • DS loves trains, trucks, cars, Elmo, and Mickey. He's likes books if they are related to any of those things. In the moment he will enjoy blocks, coloring, and stuffed animals, but it's fleeting.

  • DD has a ball toy where you hit the balls with a hammer and it goes down through the toy on different levels. I know I'm not explaining it right. She got it for her birthday and probably plays with it or just the balls every day. She also has a little vet kit where it has a stethoscope and other little things like that. The case has a bunch of doors and keys to open the doors (doors and keys are color coordinated) and dd loves unlocking the doors and locking them back up again.

  • DS loves his play kitchen I bought him off a resale group last week. He's also obsessed with trucks. Coloring he's meh about. Anything with blocks he likes pretty well.

  • 1. Anything clothes related.  I made a bin with dolls, clothes, bibs, fake bottles, etc. and she spends a lot of time just attempting to dress them, feed them, etc.

    2. playdough.  OMG playdough.  I just got her some last week and we have now played with it every day.  I now use it as my go to when getting dinner ready.  The kind i got has a ton of mini jars because she loves the different colors and also came with a bunch of cookie-cutter type utensils and all I have to do is flatten a couple of the colors and she goes to town.

    3. We got this sticker set which are really more like decals for when we went on the plane and they have been a hit.  There are a bunch of pages and it is a dollhouse these so every room of the house and all of the kids/crud for each room.  They are not sticky which I love and she has a great time with them.

    4. All Little People vehicles (plane, school bus, etc.)

  • Blocks! Both the wooden blocks and the lego-style (but bigger). Anything where she can build a tower and then knock it over.

    What a great idea!

  • Trucks are huge in our house. He also loves any type of car, block, or ball. He's really into his football right now. He's slept with it for the past 2 weeks.  He's not so into coloring. He'd rather color the easel than the paper but he loves chalk so I think that's why he doesn't get the idea of coloring a paper. Bubbles are his jam too. He LOVES bubbles.

  • he's obsessed with fire trucks ever since one drove down our street last weekend. also, my parents just got him some of those wooden fruits and vegetables and a toy cutting board that you "cut" open with a toy knife (really just two halves velcroed together) and he loves them...

  • Thanks everyone!! Great feedback. We found a great deal on a huge country kitchen that we sent to my mil's until Christmas.

She used to love little people, but now won't touch them. Mr. Potato head keeps her interest for a little bit. I feel like we have TONS of toys that never get any use anymore. She barely even plays with her babies anymore. Seems like we read (the same 6 books) all day long. She will do stickers and color for about 10 minutes. My mil made her homemade play doh, she doesn't like to touch it lol.

I'm going to maybe look for a train track.

  • Maybe you already so this, but do you do any toy rotation?  This has been our saving grace.  Currently we have three large bins in her closet and I rotate them out every few weeks.  Having fewer toys out at one time has rerally helped us and the change in scenery means more get played with too.

    Currently our system is this...

    Permanently out:

    1. Bin with all Little People, other small people, accessories.

    2. Baby Bin - has three dolls, clothes, bottles, bibs, shoes, purses, hats, etc for dress up. Her baby stroller stays out also.

    3. A leap pad system

On rotation - every few weeks I switch bins.  Each bin has a couple of stuffed animals, a couple of balls, something like lights up/makes noise (we have various annoying musical toys), something that requires thought (shape sorter, etc).  Each week I put out two puzzles.  Each bin has a couple of Little People vehicles/stations like the house, bus, etc.

Separately I also have an art bin with paper, pom poms/sorter, pipe cleaners, sticker books, play dough, etc.

  • Kind of. We rotate a lot of toys between our house and my MIL's as she goes over there 2 days a week (and she also watches DD's cousin who is 1 once a month so she has toys also).

I am starting to pick up more art stuff. I want to make a felt board, We also do not have a lot of puzzles, which I want to look for also. I really like the Melissa and Doug puzzles. I am thinking dress up too. Maybe it's that we  just have too many "baby" toys still.

    Thanks for the input!

  • Speaking of Melissa and Doug puzzles, I got him the one with all the latches on it last week, and he adores it. Great for motor skills too. It says 3+, but he does pretty good.

  • We have the latches puzzle too.  She definitely cannot latch anything let but we keep them open and she has still liked opening and closing the different doors and identifying the animals, colors, etc.

The art bin has been a developing thing.  For a long time it was something she wouldn't even spend 5 minutes on or would make such a mess that it wasn't even worth it.  Then we started with paint, moved to markers (which I still hate since she tries to draw on everything) and then i made a pom pom sorter and got the pipe cleaners to put in the collander and now she is obsessed with play dough.  She seems to be getting a longer attention span and that helps. ;)

  • We just put away a bunch of J's toys that he no longer plays with (the baby toys, sniffle sniffle). He loves the play kitchen, any kind of truck or train, books, lots of books, MegaBloks and his outdoor slide and riding tractor. And he LOVES his PlasmaCar! I cannot get him off of it. D/C has one so we bought one for our house and he has a major melt down if I take him off before he is ready.

This is totally DS when we're playing indoors, whatever he can build and then knock it down to fits of giggles!  With winter around the corner here, we really spend every moment we can outside, and he's just really into finding caterpillars, pretending he's cutting down trees "like daddy" (DH owns a tree service), running through leaves, shovels, tools, and dump trucks.

Also, Melissa and Doug make these great coloring books/pads that come with a special marker that you fill with water, and they color with (no mess BONUS!).  Once it dries you can color it again.  I also second Melissa and Doug puzzles.  The magnetic "fishing" one is great as well as their puzzle with the large handles/knobs.  I think one of his puzzles has played a major role in teaching him shapes.
