Ok, so I enjoy doing Cub Scouts with my son, but somehow I was made cubmaster this year and it is a ton of work... anyone else in the same boat? Maybe have ideas to share how they do things?
I have googled, and found some good idea, but was wondering if I was the only one . Though our boy scout master does boy and girl scouts- she told me girl scouts was more fun so Whoo hoo for you!! Have you been enjoying girl scouts?
My son's cub scout pack doesn't have a den leader and none of the parents want to step up. I tried to get DH to do it since he was almost an Eagle Scout but he won't do it.

This is what makes it hard being a cub master... or in the cub scouts at all. Few men step up and are leaders (at least in my experience) it is usually the moms. This is how I ended up den leader and then cub master- there was no one else willing to do it. I understand it is a lot of work. Is he a tiger, wolf, bear or webelos?
I enjoy scouting, but think it is wasn't so rigid I would enjoy doing it more. I have a wolf father who will be a good den leader this yr. but the others are going to take work.... I don't think the Tigers will make it b/c no parent seems willing to step up and only one showed up last night. The Bears mom will be alternating with another parent if she can find one so I've got to help them sort that out. I am doing the webelos group (with help from other parents since I am due in Dec.). Really it is like last year only a couple of parents step up... sigh.
Maybe once we get everyone settled it will be better. Last year was manageable as we had a solid group of about 10. This year we have closer to 30 and more spread out. I still have one or two parents that I need to get them and their kids signed up, and I need to get all of their parent training done. (Only had newbies 2 weeks and some had problems printing the application).
What are some of the big events your kids liked the best in cub scouts?
We did a field day last night for our pack meeting. I plan on a fun/useful for all groups activity once a month (guest speakers for the months I'll be out), and would like ideas. I have a narrow window to plan it all and set it up. We did a hike with the old boys before the new boys joined so I suppose we will fit that in, but prob in the Spring as we usually do a hike or camp out (or both depends on what we managed to do in the fall) and then a awards (blue/gold) in the Spring.
LOL well, unfortunately we are out in the middle of nowhere so there are only a few options. We inform parents of free stuff in a bigger city about an hour away (we live in a small town), such as zoo days for scouts or base ball games for scouts. There are not a lot of close by cool things and many of our families are low income (very low income such as grandparents raising grandkids on very little money). We try and visit local things (fire station, newspaper office, radio station) but are fortunate to have a nice forestry park system right in our county. Just seeing what else is out there Thanks for all the suggestions and possiblities.
