Mum-mums and puffs

I'm curious how many mommas give their LO's Mum mums and/or puffs? My LO still isn't a great self-feeder but will feed herself these things. I just don't want to give it to her too often. So I guess a second question for those who give them, how often do you do so? LO will feed herself these and I think it's cause they are harder. Soft cooked veggies, she'll just squish in her hand and throw on the floor or rub over her tray. Silly girl.

Re: Mum-mums and puffs

  • I usually give LO puffs or cheerios twice a day. Usually only two or three make it down his throat, but he is working on his self feeding skills. Plus it gives me time while he is in the high chair that I can do stuff in the kitchen. I am still close enough that I can make sure he is not choking, but I can cook dinner or do dishes and I know he is not getting into anything.

  • We just started giving DD these at the advice of her dietician. The one kind of puff she threw up almost immediately so I haven't given those again. She loves the mum mums though. It makes me really nervous when the chunks break off but she does pretty well with "chewing". I only give them to her once in a while though, not every day.

  • I give puffs and mums when I want to distract her so I can get stuff done. Like two time a day? On average.

  • While I was in Whole Foods I started asking another Mom about Mum Mums.  I picked up a box and give them a whirl.  DS love them and give it to him probably 3 times a week. He doesn't have any teeth but manages just fine. Oh, and I give it to him whole.

  • DD gets puffs or cheerios at nearly every meal (so 2-3x day). I throw some on her tray as I am preparing her food. We don't do mum mums though as hardly any store I go to carry them, although she does like them a lot.

We love them! I usually have mum mums in the diaper bag for when we go out to eat or something. Keeps him busy and they tend to make less of a mess than 57 puffs on the floor ;) He gets puffs daily as a little snack at home.

  • We give them 2-3x's a day. DS lurvs his puffs. I try not to give a ton, since they have like zero nutritional value, but they entertain him and keep him busy for a few minutes when we're cleaning up after meals or out at a restaurant. We go through a container of puffs in maybe 8-9 days I'm guessing.

  • Abby loves puffs!!! She's addicted! She wants it over any other food. I put some on her tray and let her eat a few then give her another spoonful of food. I ask give them to her so I can get her or my food ready or pee. She gets them at dinner and daycare has a container too. Happy to see some of your answers because I started wondering about it too and worried she was getting too many but she seems to be the norm!

  • We usually do mummums, happy baby rice cakes or puffs at 2 out of her 3 solid food meals.

  • We just started mum mums and she loves it. I have to be careful with anything with fruit, since the only fruit she hasn't had an allergic reaction to was bananas, so she has the banana ones. I give it to her while I get dinner ready.
  • @tarajeannette‌ I just noticed them at Target the other day cuz DD is teething like crazy! I think there is less than 1g sugar per 2 pack, but I'll check later and let you know.
  • DS likes the mum mums. We get the banana ones and the veggie ones. He loves them and gets 1 pack a day or every other day. DD likes them too and they are easy to throw in the diaper bag.

They also really like the meltable yogurt drops.

I just had to google these things. Is this some secret baby crack? Do they have sugar free ones?

Don't know about sugar free, but there are veggie ones. There are also organic ones called yums with different flavors. My dd likes those a lot too.

  • Sorry, less than 1g in 4 and each mini pack comes with 2.
  • @Roses87‌ I wish I could get the yums but they all have fruit in them and my DD is allergic to every fruit but bananas so far. I wanted to get the kale ones but I think they had apples in them...boo.
  • I'm happy to see your responses. DD gets a mum-mum everyday (one cracker, eventhough two come in the pack) and a few puffs about twice a day. There really isn't any nutritional value but not much sugar either so wasn't sure if there was any harm in giving them as often as I do.

  • DD loves puffs!! She gets them a few times a day, but I only give her maybe 5 at each meal, if that. Usually long enough to keep her entertained while I get her food or bottle ready.

  • @danaadell mine will try pick up as many as she can in each hand and then waves her hands and laughs. She's proud she could pick up 3 puffs in each hand. Funny kid. She'll only put one in her mouth at a time though.

Have you thought about trying cheerios?  Vivi loves cheerios!  Plus I feel like they have more nutrition than the puffs.  I give cheerios whenever.

Edit:  I am totally not worried about the sugar in cheerios.

  • My poor child is deprived!! We haven't even tried these yet! She's only had puréed and formula to this point!

I'm so paranoid to try different things with her bc of all of the stomach issues we had when she was newborn and a few months thereafter.

Looks like it might be time to suck it up and try some puffs!!

  • Dd's a special snowflake when it comes to food/meals, but as far as puffs go, I use them whenever I need to buy some time, either at mealtime or in her walker (while supervising, and usually pumping). She's a big fan of finger foods and loves to feed herself.
