Hello. I'm hoping this will be well received. I've been trying to get more active on tb lately, and will likely be posting more frequently as our lives are about to drastically change.
So, my fam and I are moving from sunny SoCal to Wisconsin and I'm probably grasping at straws here, but wondering if any of you are in that area?
I'll be leaving my job to be a stay at home mom to our 2 year old and march 15 baby to be.
I've never stayed home with my son before and have never lived in a cold climate.
I'm looking for pointers, things to do with kids in the winter time so they don't watch tv all day, what it's like being a stay at home mom, what Midwestern living is like, etc.
Thanks for reading.
Go packers and cheese!
Re: Wisconsin
I'm from the upper peninsula of Michigan, were about 2 hours or so from the Wisconsin border. The people in Wisconsin have always seemed friendly every time I've been there though!
Winter is hard sometimes, this past winter we could hardly get outside at all because there were so many below 0 days and dangerous windchills. We try to keep occupied inside (coloring, flash cards, painting etc) but we take every opportunity to get out and do something like playgroups and children's museums with friends. Sometimes in the winter we just made an event out of going to the mailbox...
Hope your move goes smoothly!
On another note- I was hoping that this thread would have cheese in it.
You might get a little stir crazy by February or March, that's usually when I can't take being cooped up any longer. I try to get out and go anywhere at all indoors, even the dreaded mall, just to walk around and feel like part of the world.
I refuse to wear any other shoes until the very last centimeter of the last snow has completely melted. Fashion be damned.

I’m a modern man, a man for the millennium. Digital and smoke free. A diversified multi-cultural, post-modern deconstruction that is anatomically and ecologically incorrect. I’ve been up linked and downloaded, I’ve been inputted and outsourced, I know the upside of downsizing, I know the downside of upgrading. I’m a high-tech low-life. A cutting edge, state-of-the-art bi-coastal multi-tasker and I can give you a gigabyte in a nanosecond! I’m new wave, but I’m old school and my inner child is outward bound. I’m a hot-wired, heat seeking, warm-hearted cool customer, voice activated and bio-degradable. I interface with my database, my database is in cyberspace, so I’m interactive, I’m hyperactive and from time to time I’m radioactive.
We luckily have an AWD vehicle but I definitely have no idea how to drive in winter, now rush hour traffic on the 405 through the west side of LA I can do, winter I'm not so sure.
So, maybe a dumb question but since we will be pretty largely pregnant this winter, do I buy a maternity winter coat? Or regular one and hope it zips?

Warmth is number one priority in outer layers. Who gives two craps if it's cute. You can wear the cute sweaters and stuff underneath
Good luck with the move. If you want to chat let me know.
There is stuff to do in Wisconsin all year long, you just have to be willing to look for it! Summer in Milwaukee is amazing if you ever get the chance to visit.
