Home...

Went to visit my parents this weekend, and referenced it as going 'home'. DH was hurt that my childhood home is 'home' more than our place. What's home to you?

Re: Home...

  • Other, we've selected Alaska as our home.  We both moved a ton as kids and continue to do so now with the military, so "where you grew up" isn't home, and neither is where we live now.

  • I said where I live now, but it wasn't until I was married that I switched.

  • I consider both, with my husband and daughter wherever the air force sends us as well as Texas where our families are as home.

  • When my folks still lived in Philly and I would go visit them, I called that home since that's where I lived the longest. Their new home in SC is definitely not home to me.

As much as I love Oregon it still doesn't totally feel like home to me, even after being here almost a decade.
  • I said other. I call where I grew up home, where we live now home, and sometimes refer to the town DH grew up in as his home.  I've tried to just refer to our house as home, more to avoid confusion for LO when he gets older, but I don't do to well doing it. My old home number (parents' house) is still saved as 'Home' in my cell phone...

  • Where I live now. Up until I got married it was my hometown. Now I just refer to my hometown by name. Sometimes I slip and say "home," but correct myself.

  • I reference both my home ( parents) and our home as home
  • Other - We actually live in the same town that I grew up in.
  • Because we've moved around a bit, we associate out hometowns with home. I call our current house/city home. H considers northern CA his home. Definitely not our parents' houses.
  • I live in the same county I was born but I've moved 17 times so my current home is home. I'm sure if my Mom still lived in my childhood home I would call that home as well.
  • Home is where my husband takes his boots off! I know that sounds stupid but since we are moving around for the third time in two years, that's just how it is.

However, we do refer to our hometown as "home", too but it still wouldn't feel like home if he wasn't living with me. If that makes any sense.

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is, home is not a place. For me, it's a person.

  • Home is where my family is, which is Boston. It has always been 'home'. Plus I have zero intention of staying in CT for the rest of my life. I'm ready to move home.

  • I chose Other. Home is basically where I am going to sleep that night! Staying at a hotel - I say "lets go home" meaning back to the hotel. Out visiting in laws, thats home.

Basically where ever my pillow is, that's home! lol

  • I said other. DH, kiddos and I live five minutes away from my parents and the house I grew up in. When talking to DH about something at our house, I say "it's at home" but when talking to my mom about something at their house, I say "it's at the house".

  • Home is where your mom is. Just ask or LOs ;) But, I use home for both. I think because I now live in a different state. If I lived down the street from my parents, I wouldn't call their house home.

    This.

But I think your DH is being silly. There is nothing wrong with saying you are going home to see your family. The place you grew up will always feel like home, even if you no longer live there. That doesn't take away from how you feel about your new home.

  • Same as most everyone here: home is where close loved ones are. DH, LO and I live at our home. MIL's house is home, my mom's in CO is home. Dunno if I'd call my SIL's house home, but eh. XD

Home is where I live now. I've lived here almost my whole life. It doesn't feel quite the same since my parents moved to a different state, though.

ETA: my parents also sold our childhood home when my bro and I went to college, so coming "home" was never the same.
