Due date bumped up a week?!

I went for my ultrasound yesterday and was supposed to be 12 weeks tomorrow with a due date April 15, I'm pretty sure I know when we conceived as well, but the ultrasound girl changed my due date to the 8th which puts me at 13 weeks? I know it's not a huge deal but I'm a little OCD-ish and wanted to know if this is common or do we have a massive baby on our hands?! Anyone else?

Re: Due date bumped up a week?!

  • I measured on track with my first pretty much the whole time until the last tri when they started telling me I was going to have a 10+ lb baby. He came out 6lb 7oz. Since then I don't put *too* much stock in the ultrasound measurements. They can't always be exact.

  • Yes they were going by the measurements as well so maybe we just have a big old turkey on our hands?! They just assume that I'm a mom of 100 kids and don't need any explaining, so thanks for the answer!

Mine was moved up by 4 days, but I also ovulated on Day 10 not Day 14. Do you know if you tend to ovulate early. Really basing it on ovulation is the most accurate.
  • It is called an Estimated Due Date. It's just that a guess with a dash of math. Assume +/- 2 weeks on either side of the EDD is when you will give birth, unless you're a true planner & already have a c-sec scheduled.
  • I measured a week ahead at my 12 week scan. The tech said my due date will remain the same, it's just a big baby.

Pretty much the same here! I measured on track the whole time. I was a week late so was going to the dr the last 2 weeks. I was told she was going to be high 8lbs, next appt, low 9lbs and the last appt almost 10lbs! My daughter was 7lbs 6oz! They told my sil that her daughter was going to be 8lbs she was 10lbs 6oz! I don't listen to that stuff any more. Your could go late u could go early u never. Measurements could be off or the baby could have had a growth spurt.

After those early weeks 7-9, ultrasound dating becomes less accurate. You may want to talk with your doctor about it. A week makes a big difference on the other end if you would like to avoid induction.

  • I measured ahead a week at my first u/s at 10 weeks. The tech mentioned changing my due date but when I met with the doctor she decided not to. There is no way I could have conceived early. I was away without H for that whole week. Unless there was some sort of miracle.

It doesn't matter anyway. Baby will come whenever it wants. Except that I am probably planning a c section at 39 weeks and I want my date to be as accurate as possible.

Unless you actually have OCD, you shouldn't make light of a mental disorder by referring to not knowing exactly when your kid pops out as OCD-ish

why are you trying to start an argument? She obviously didn't mean offence by it!

    Chill man.

  • Sorry for the OCD comment. I guess I should say I'm more of a hypochondriac and this is my first rodeo so like to follow all the symptoms, and facts that this site provides. Sorry to offend anyone. Peace.
  • And there we go, an argument has started and other women have jumped in for 'backup'

Stop trying to cause arguments! I understand OCD is not a laughing matter but she did not mean it personally!

Focus on being pregnant instead of lecturing people.

'No one is causing an argument, except you'

Your right, I'm sorry. No one else got involved here, this was all me. Please forgive me.

This reminds me of using "gay" or the N word casually because those words have taken different popular meanings and uses. If it offends someone, then it is not okay.

This is a personal reminder for me to choose my words carefully. Especially when I have the luxury of a delete button when I type.

Furthermore, OP already responded appropriately, so now you are WKing for nothing!!!

  • I think it's "normal", meaning it happens quite often
But then, I do have my 12 week scan today & quite nervous. I think if I'm told that my EDD is off by a week, it will create pregnancy worrying. Completely unwarranted but that's just the nature of me.

    This.

As a mom who needed 39w inductions for HR stuff - I fought to keep my due dates as they should be based on ovulation (charting).  My kids were both big - but since the lungs are last to develop I wouldn't let them induce my 11 pounder before his actual 39w gestation day.  If I had blindly trusted the first u/s tech's dates he would have been induced a week sooner.  the tech's dates put conception only 7 days after my period started and I know I O on day 16/17, not day 7.

If you KNOW your conception date - be firm with the doc that you don't want to move your due date up b/c of 1 u/s tech's measurements of something that is only a couple centimeters big right now.

A week can make a big difference when it comes to inductions.
