Name similarity, too matchy?

DH and I are still trying to come up with boy names- same as the first time around, we're struggling. DD's name is Gwen, not short for Gwendolyn or anything, our last name is long and foreign. I love LOVE the name Owen, but have realized it's basically the same damn name when written down. I can't decide if it's a deal breaker or if nobody else will notice.

  • Until you said it, I didn't realize the similarity!  You may have people point it out but not many.  Not like you are naming them Samantha and Samuel.  That...well, I would have a different reply!

  • It's really only an issue (if you think there is one) when the names are written together. Some people seeing them written down might think they were named that way on purpose.

But if you love Owen, use it. I don't think it matters that they're spelled similarly. :)

  • I think the bigger problem will be them wondering who you're calling from another room. "Gwen! Owen!" That's where the confusion will lie.
  • My two are matchy because we love the names. Do what you like :)
  • I think they are good matchy, Gwen is one syllable, Owen is two, so there is a difference, I like both names
    :)
  • I accidentally clicked side eye, but I meant to click they sound different so go with it!

  • I think they sound different enough. If you love it, then use it :)
  • I didn't think they were similar until I really looked at them to try to see the similarity. I say go for it. It isn't like Oliver and Olivia or Michael and michelle. I think those are way more noticeable.
  • I also didn't realize until you pointed it out. I'd still go for it. Chances are only a few will realize anyway.
