Scared rant of some kind

The other day on the ask a bumpie thread I had mentioned that I hadn't had a seizure in a really long time, over a year or so. Well, yesterday I had one. We were at my parents house and I was walking...then suddenly I'm just laying on the floor still convulsing and my entire family is surrounding me just freaking the fuck out. This one only lasted a minute and THANKFULLY I wasn't holding the baby. Or hit my head on anything. It may have been caused by forgetting to take my medication that day (I'm prone to do that often), stress about probably having to put my dog to sleep soon, and I've suddenly lost a lot of weight. Below my PP weight. Anyways, I'm home alone and terrified of it happening again while im holding Quinn. I won't take her out of the bedroom or downstairs because my house is al hardwoods. And I have to drive my 12 yo to practice later. I shouldn't even be alone, when you have a seizure you can just get up and walk around not even knowing it happened before you regain consciousness and even if you break your arm you don't even feel the pain till much later. I can't always live in fear but now I have a baby to worry about, when I'm holding her, walking down the steps, driving, giving her a bath, or even when I'm not holding her and it's happening when she really needs me. I don't know what the point of this Debbie Downer post is, and since my brain is probably rebooting itself I could just be writing senseless rambling nonsense. But I guess I'll end it with take care of yourselves. I know you guys don't have epilepsy but find ways to relieve pent up stress and anxiety, address possible PPD, or depression in general, and never forget to take medications that are prescribed daily.

Re: Scared rant of some kind

  • So sorry that happened to you and that you're stressing out. :( How did you handle these situations when your other kids were younger? The only thing I can think of is maybe you can have someone who's available to call you every hour to check in and make sure everything is okay until your husband or someone else gets home. I'm not saying do this forever, but maybe just until things become less stressful and you think there won't be as many triggers in your life.

I've been meaning to ask you if your dog is trained to help you? I know there are dogs who can sense when someone is about to have a seizure and are trained to get help I think. I don't know a lot of info about them.

  • So scary @Ashleypixie‌! I need to set reminders on my phone for everything, so I'm with the others who suggested a phone reminder or alarm for your meds. I wish there was a magical way to relieve your fears, but for now ((hugs)) from a creepy internet stranger. It's such good advice and a needed reminder for all of us to make sure we take care of ourselves too

  • Sending hugs your way. I can only imagine how stressed you are.

I hope you can reach out to those around you and let them keep you company and offer you support.

Not much to say except (hug). I second the calling and checking every hour. I have a ton of friends up there if you need anything. (Don't know what side of atlanta you live but I know people all over)
  • So sorry that happened again! I'm sure it is much more scary to deal with and anticipate with your LO around. Agree with pps on alarm for your meds but I'm sure in hindsight that's obvious and annoying to hear. And I'm sorry to hear you have to put your dog down, damn! That's a lot going on girl. I'm sure it is hard to already think of another dog but as @edoliesmom‌ mentioned if your dog is not trained to sense your episodes could you look into that for the future? My old bosses middle schooler has daily seizures and they are working on getting her a dog soon, I believe, as she has had multiple unsuccessful surgeries already for her epilepsy. Hugs to you, take care of yourself!
  • I can't offer any advice beyond what PP's have said, so sending creepy internet hugs, and don't forget to take care of yourself so you can take care of your cutie!

  • I'm so sorry mama. That must be so tough. I can't even imagine. Set an alarm, so you take your meds on time. Try to relax. You can't live in fear even though it is hard because you don't want to hurt your baby. Be careful lady! Hugs!

  • So sorry you are going through this. I hope you find something that gives you peace of mind.
  • Wow, that's scary! Give yourself a couple days to recover and maybe check in with your doctor (assuming you haven't already done so). And for heaven's sake, go get a spa treatment!! You deserve some TLC. >:D<
  • Thanks everyone. I agree that i should set an alarm, I just haven't because I usually just take them when I get up and then again before bed. This morning my husband woke me up to take them before he left for work, I'm sure he'll be doing that for a while. Ugh, I'm sorry, guys. I feel so needy these days! On a positive note, my dog came home today! No matter what happens I'm just glad he's home for a while. He won't eat but he will drink meat water. Makes me gag but it's something anyways.

  • Just as bad, the last time I had one was during filming on a TV show with John Stamos. Fortunately this wasn't in front of a camera OR uncle Jessie but it was a recurring role and I took the rest of the season off. Which was like four episodes but I was too humiliated to return.

No, I don't have anyone to help me drive but I do as little as possible and not far. GA laws are very lax regarding license restrictions! I've known a few people who've had seizures while driving and thankfully were ok but their license was never restricted. It's stupid.
