Hey! Sorry if this has been asked before..I tried searching but only got the high risk check ins and the pee jug.
Anyway, I woke up yesterday feeling swollen and "tight" all over. My blood pressure was 140s-150s/80s all day. I work in a hospital so I dipsticked my urine = no protein. My BP was still high this am so I'm in the waiting room at the drs office. Anyone else dealt with similar?

Update 10/17
So my BP has been up again over the last few days and I went back to the ob. I've gotta do a 24-hour urine and go back on Tuesday for follow-up and ultrasound. If my BP is still elevated over the next couple of bi-weekly appts, I'll be induced at 37 weeks. Freaking out a bit since I thought I had another 7+ weeks to let the little man cook and prepare for his arrival. Just thought I'd share in case anyone was dealing with something similar.

  • I haven't dealt with this, but keep us updated! Hope all is okay.

  • Did you eat a lot of sodium recently?  I have high blood pressure normally, and I came off my medication when I became pregnant, because my prescription wasn't safe for pregnancy.  My midwife has been watching my BP very closely, and I check/log it daily.  A couple weeks ago, I went on a business trip where I had to drive nine hours each way, which inevitably resulted in over two days worth of eating fast food or just restaurant food in general.  I normally try to limit my sodium intake, but it's really difficult on the road.  I noticed a change pretty quickly.  I felt swollen, my BP was up, and I just felt "off."  I let my midwife know, and I went on a sodium purge, keeping my sodium intake below 1500mg daily for the next week.  Now I'm back to my "usual" BP, which is still a bit elevated, but much better than it was.  My midwife also just had me do a 24-hour urine collection (the jug thing) for good measure; I dropped off the jug today.  I'm hoping my sudden BP spike was just a result of sodium and stress and NOT a warning sign of preeclampsia.  I hope you're feeling better, and I do think reducing your sodium (stay away from processed foods!) can make an almost immediate improvement. Good luck! :)
  • All depends on your normal range.. 140/80 is high-normal.  Let us know what the MD says.  And drink plenty of water.

  • I hope everything is okay!

I have had some borderline BPs, so had to do the jug. I have also had some bloated days, but found that exercising seemed to move the fluid. The bloating seemed to occur after a couple days of not-so-perfect eating (aka too much sugar).

  • When I am at the doctor my blood pressure is always high like 138/87 and when I am at home with my own machine it's always 95-110/64-77. It's called white coat syndrome and I can feel my anxiety when I am in a doctor office setting. I would suggest trying it at different places, home, supermarket, drug store etc. and also if u have a little bit bigger arm or smaller you have to see if the cuff for blood pressure is your size. Offices often use only one size which doesn't fit everyone. If u have a bigger arm try using it on your forearm.
  • And also watch salt intake and fast food especially.
  • Looks like it was probably my salt intake! Had lots of chips and velvetta dip Saturday... My doc told me to go home relax and do nothing for the rest of the day. I went back yesterday morning and it was much better! I also was 3lbs lighter. So all is good right now. I'll have to go back weekly so they can keep a close eye on it. Thanks for all your support!!!
