I grew up in a small town and even now that I recently moved back after 17 yrs friends still call me "Elle Bee". It's a play on my initials (maiden name).
What do your friends call you IRL? Why?
In 3rd grade, I got the wonderful privilege of starting at a new school just after my mom and step dad got married. If you change one letter in my maiden name you get, monkey. In 3rd grade when I moved to this new school is when this was discovered. My life became a living hell because of that. In middle school, they got creative, Spanky [maiden name] Monkey. Seriously, I hate these people still this day because of this. When I go home, immediately, "Hey, monkey, how's it going?"
When I was overseas, my commander wanted to have a call sign naming ceremony. Thanks to my mouth and cursing, I got Sailor, because I curse like a sailor :-/
DH has for a very long time called me Messy Jessy and May May. Which he now calls DD Mo Mo.
At this point in life, my only nickname is Ash. DH occasionally calls me Funny Face but that's a long story (and a great movie). As a kid I had a bunch that all had to do with my height and/or red hair. Giraffe, Jolly Red Giant, Red, etc. I had a teacher that call me Gilligan's Island because of my maiden name.
None of the childhood nicknames stuck because I moved in middle school (only 10 min away) and fell out of contact with everyone.
I go by Elly. It's way easier to pronounce/figure out than my real name and I don't have to deal with questions.
Son: Jackson, 11/02/06, stillborn due to PPROM and IUGR. Over the next ten years we had 9 miscarriages from 8-14 weeks. On May 18, 2016 my daughter, Ridley, was born. We're OADNBC.
Same here. Given my nickname, depending on the season, I'm called Candi cane, Candi corn, so on and so on. My great grandpa used to call me gumdrop and my brothers can me Nan.
Nay, Mouse, Kammy, and Ren. My family calls me Nay. I was super quiet IRL until Army Basic, so some friends started calling me Mouse, and it stuck (I've had friends call me Lady Mouse IRL.) Kammy is a play on my maiden name, of course given in the Army. Ren... well, my first name is Renee, and one of my friends obsessively nicknames everyone.
I am "Raylo" to my HS friends after JLO and "Rae" to my college friends.
My dad calls me "fish." Long story short, in 3rd grade everyone got a guppy to take home. All the other fish died within the first week and I kept mine alive for 3 years in a peanut butter jar.
Typically it's just Allie, but a lot of the new people I work with call me alley cat(I hate that). A dr I work with calls me Lexi because he thought that's what people called me, and when I corrected him he said he likes it better.

I was vehemently anti-nickname growing up so I never had one. After several years of actively trying to give me one, DH has given up. He agrees; there's no nickname that suits me as well as my whole name.
I get called by my last name a lot. It started because I played sports in school, but it has continued well into adulthood. It made it really really difficult to consider changing my name when I got married. I am only informally hyphenating at this point.
"She had a lively, playful disposition, which delighted in anything ridiculous"
My nickname is Kk. My name is Kaitlynne. When my little sister and niece were little they could not say my name. That's where I got my nickname. I still have people calling me Kk. Lol
Ever since we moved to Texas, I've been given the name "Jersey."
It started with my coworkers. There are three of us with the same first name, and since I moved from NJ, calling me Jersey just kind of stuck. The name has since made it's way to my email signature, business cards, and voicemail. I have clients who honestly think that is my real name since no one at my job ever refers to me as anything else.
I honestly don't mind it at all. I have a heavy Jersey accent, which obviously stands out in Texas, so it cuts down on the interrogation about where I'm from when I meet people.
@bluepie19 I'm a KK too. My brother and cousins call me KK and my middle school/highschool friends did as well. If I am in a crowd and hear someone say KK, I know it is someone I haven't seen in a while; unless I'm with family. I love it as a nickname and hope my grandchildren call me that!
My friends call me Pee-Wee. It's started off because of my obsession with the Pee-Wee Herman movies by a friend. People heard her call me that and it just spread. Everyone else thinks she gave me that nickname because I'm petite but it's really just from my bad taste in movies.
During high school and in the army I was called Cat or cateyes (shocker, right) because I have pupils that bleed down and look like a cat's. I was also called Wa as that is how a lot of my younger siblings would first say my name.

I get the exact same thing for the same reason. Played a lot of sports in school and even now that I'm married I still get called by my last name.
I'm a serial nicknamer, so I give more nicknames than I get. Most of mine directly stem from my first name, which is one of nine billion derivations from a certain religious figure.
My favorite for my husband are Shubba the Hubba and Humphrey.
Please note that due to the actions of TheBump and their parent company, XO Corporation, I no longer feel safe or comfortable posting regularly on this forum for my pregnancy journey.

Thanks to Girl Scout camp my nickname with my family is Squirrel and occassionally Small Mammal. Now I get all the squirrel paraphernalia my family can find. I've decided to embrace it, hence my screen name.
Others in my extended family call me Emmy, and if you're not part of my extended family and use that name you get the death stare.
I grew up being called Hannah Banana, which I HATED! For a while I got Hannah Montana, thank God that is over.
The last 3 letters of my maiden name are sex and for a while after my middle school made us wear gym shirts with our last name on the back I got called Hannah Sex. That was humiliating.
And now, not nickname related but, I no longer have the word sex in my last name, I have the word urine. How bizarre. And with that information about me, if you thought you might know who I am you definitely do now!
My future kids will always have names that can be shortened for nicknames.
I'm the opposite. I made sure when we named DS that his name couldn't be shortened. But I do call him by NN's that are in no way related to his given name.

I like you more now because of My Drunk Kitchen....
And I am known as Boston... when I moved to the UK in one suitcase most my rugby stuff was from my former team... so the name stuck
H used to call me Hoss. I never really knew why, but it was funny. He hasn't called me that in a long time though.
I think I would be pissed if anyone called me Hoss.

Nah, it was more of a sarcastic nickname. Like "okay, whatever you say "HOSS"" If i thought he was being mean about it, I wouldn't have let him call me that
