flat spots

So, anyone else noticing baby with a bit of a flat head? My DD seems to have what appears to be brachycephaly. It has not affected her at all, but of course it makes me feel bad. I was just wondering if anyone else was dealing with something similar. I keep her either upright or on her tummy for most of her awake time in effort to help round things out, but she sleeps 10 + hours each night on her back so I know that is what has caused it to happen I'm sure.

Re: flat spots

  • Josh is a little flatter on the one side, but you can't tell unless you're really looking for it.  I've been trying to get him to roll to his other side but he doesn't like it.  The back of his head is perfectly fine.  His awake time is also spent mostly up right or on his tummy.

  • Yep LO has plagiocephaly and gets her helmet today actually. If your concerned talk to your pediatrician and they can refer you to a craniofacial specialist who can measure. LO's flat spot is not severe enough to affect development, but we decided it was enough that she would be upset when she gets older if we didn't fix it. Some flat spots will resolve with more time upright, ours will not

  • Yep, we got measured yesterday and they recommended a helmet. Going to just get the final opinion from my physical therapist today.
