Leaving the baby with family for 5 nights/6 days. Can you help me plan?

Next week we're going to FL for a wedding. A is not attending and he'll be staying with my dad and SM while we're out of town. I'm trying to figure out what I need to send over there to make it as easy as possible for them to manage. He'll sleep in a PNP that we keep at their house. It's really anyone's guess what he'll eat so I'm sending plenty of both finger foods and purees. Besides the obvious stuff like his medications, toys, clothes, and diapers what should I pack for him?

My dad does have a key to my place if I forget something. He knows where to find our life insurance and other important documents should he need them. I'll leave a list with his medicine regimen, doctors phone numbers, and his schedule. Both my dad and SM are his emergency contacts for DC and the pedi and have permission to sign him in and out, and seek medical treatment.

Anything I am forgetting? I'm afraid we'll get all the way over there and my dad will call me looking for something or with some rather routine matter that I forgot to
go over before we left.

That was pretty long. Sorry.

  • Loading the player...
  • If you use special laundry detergent for A's clothes, send some in case they need to do a load. That way you don't have to send as many JIC clothes.

  • Oh also baby thermometer and if you use a special bottle wash.
  • It sounds like you've got a pretty thorough list. Do you use any kind of white noise machine for A during naps or bedtime?

  • Do you live in they same area as your dad? Maybe they want a little staycation and could just stay at your house while you are gone...

  • I would not have thought of half of this stuff. Way to be super prepared!

  • Skype?

Yeah, and probably FaceTime also because we do that once a day so it would be kind of familiar.

Yeah, so Sinny is quite the character.

He was a sire for a breeder. It's possible he was taken from his mom too soon and that can cause problems. Cornish Rex were bred with Siamese when they were first introduced in the U.S., and OCD is more common in Orientals. Then he was shipped around in a crate all the time, and when he was rescued he was around a lot of other cats. He hates all cats so he really went nuts.

He is not medicated but it may come to that at some point. His evening walks help his anxiety. If he starts having issues he paces. He does figure eights in the living room just walking back and forth and looping around furniture. He will get a hot spot on his tail if we don't keep a close eye on him.

We always had someone stay at the house with him when we went out of town but that wasn't feasible for one trip. He was boarded but I bought 6 spaces and they opened up the adjoining sides so he had the ability to roam. He also had a window and his favorite piece of furniture. We paid the employees to give him a daily massage and lap time 3 times a day. All in an effort to give him as much attention as possible and hope it wouldn't be too much for him. When he came home he was a wreck. He never set foot in that little piece of cat furniture again and went back to excessive grooming and pacing. It took a couple months for him to get back to normal.

@wedding06 Sinny is nuts about his litter box also. I never attributed that behavior to his OCD but it makes sense. He always uses the box also but he would hold it if it wasn't up to his standards. After he poops he yowls and runs wild to announce it, then while we clean up he comes over and watches us as if to make sure we're doing a good job! This cat is sure he runs the show, and some days he's probably right.
  • After his 6 wake-ups with no clear cause last night I'm on the verge of a nervous breakdown at the thought of making my dad go through that.
