**Born to Run Junebugs**

This is a weekly thread for runners who were due June 2014, that is posted on Mondays (I forgot to yesterday). All who run--or who want to start running--are welcome, regardless of mileage, pace, ability, size, shape, or terrestrial status. We had this thread during pregnancy, now it's time to lose that baby weight.

how were your runs and workouts this week?

notice any major changes since having baby? weird pains?

how are you managing your time in order to fit in workouts?

what's your favorite thing about fall?

Re: **Born to Run Junebugs**

  • how were your runs and workouts this week?  I only got 1 run in this past week. But it was my first really besides trotting here and there so it felt great!

notice any major changes since having baby? weird pains? I've strained my calf or something. Who knows. It feels better finally.

how are you managing your time in order to fit in workouts? I'm struggling. I get up at 6am to get ready for work and get LO up, ready, and fed and we're out the door at 7:15. I have to leave work by 5 to pick him up by 6. And then depending on when he needs to eat next and how tired I am determines if I will go out or not, it usually doesn't work out. BUT I think I have a new plan, I go downstairs to my company gym at 4:30, hop on the treadmill for 30 minutes and then leave. I just have to work through lunches to make up my time. Now it's just a matter of pulling myself away from my desk...

what's your favorite thing about fall? The smell. There is just a different smell about fall. People burning leaves I guess. It just smells good to me for some reason:)

  • how were your runs and workouts this week?  So far so good! Last weekend I did 3.5 miles with the stroller on Saturday (stroller running is SO hard! I was dead after) and 5 miles with friends on Sunday. This morning I finally got my "new routine" going and was up at 4:30am to do a strength workout in my basement. The plan is to do the 4:30am workouts 3-4x/week and still run 3x/week, with one of the runs being a long one on Sat or Sun.

notice any major changes since having baby? weird pains? My left ankle is stiff and sore every single day... no clue why, but I hobble around for a good 10 mins every time I get up. I still feel some tenderness around my incision area when I do core workouts, too. I was doing russian twists this morning, and I had some discomfort.

how are you managing your time in order to fit in workouts? It is SO hard to find time, which is why I'm getting up at 4:30am. I leave the house at 6:45 for work and don't get home until 5pm. By that point I'm fried, and honestly, DD goes to bed around 7:30 and I don't want to lose any of that 2.5 hours I get with her! So, ungodly early is my only option. On weekends I get to "sleep in" until 5:30, sometimes 6:30, before I leave to go running.

what's your favorite thing about fall? Everything! I love fall!! Apple cider donuts, caramel coffee, flannel, boots, warm sweaters, the air, the leaves, and TRAIL RUNNING!

  • @babygabe614 4:30am! Ugh! You're a trooper! I feel the same way after work. I just want to enjoy him for a few hours before he goes to bed. I'm working his bed time up too so I'm getting even less now. DH doesn't get home til 10pm or else I would probably do a quick run in the neighborhood while he's napping or something. 4:30! I will think of you while I'm sleeping tomorrow morning. HA!

  • @nicolewhelan I kind of hate that DD has such an early bedtime. She set that herself... in fact, up until a couple weeks ago we were putting her in her crib around 9 but then we realized we were actually forcing her to stay up that late and if we just dimmed the lights in the house around 7pm she would conk out on her own (which she did, right at 7 last night and slept for 6 hours!) I wish I could just work out after she goes to bed but I would be up allll night if I did that.

  • how were your runs and workouts this week?
I was only able to get out for one run this week but was able to improve my pace by 45 seconds, so I guess that's something :)

notice any major changes since having baby? weird pains?
Just that I'm slower and sore the next day. But that's to be expected since I didn't run or workout throughout my pregnancy.

how are you managing your time in order to fit in workouts?
This is the biggest challenge. It's so difficult to find time to run during the week, especially since my LO is not on a schedule. Sometimes she wakes up at 5 a.m. and other times she wakes up at 7. By the time DH gets home it is dark out, and I can't run on a treadmill. Well, I can but I hate to! So I'm going to try other workouts besides running. We went to our first Baby and Me yoga class today, I'm going to try Stroller Strides, and I ordered a Baby and Me Pilates DVD.

what's your favorite thing about fall?
I love fall!!! I love the cooler temperatures, wearing sweaters, and that all of the restaurants serve butternut squash everything! Oh, and I love to go apple picking and go to the wineries every fall!
  • how were your runs and workouts this week?
I got 1 in on the weekend but it was my longest one, 3.5 miles! Got to celebrate the little victories.

how are you managing your time in order to fit in workouts?
Not well. DH doesn't get home from work until 630 which is when we stay bedtime. Then I'm too hungry for dinner so I haven't done any running during the week. I try to run both sat and sun while DH is home.

what's your favorite thing about fall?
I love the crisp air, I can't explain it, but it feels so fresh. It always reminds me of cross country season too which was my favorite!
  • How were my runs: I ran 3 times, up to 3 miles now, so that's a victory.

Noticing anything different: I have no stamina. It has taken so long to get back to where I was. Can I blame it in BFing like I blame everything else??

Managing time: what time? What's sleep? I go in the afternoon, after work. Sometimes we run with her in the stroller, sometimes my parents watch her while we go to the gym. I hate being away. But I'm not the morning type, andplusalso my gym doesn't open until 6, and my neighborhood is not the kind of place I want to run before light!!!

Fall: campfires, running outside, sweaters, chili, football!
  • Finally able to participate in this thread again!!
I ran twice about 3 miles each time. I ran 4 half marathons from May to May before I got pregnant and then just quit and have been struggling to get back at it. Now that my 8 year old is at school all day and my 4 year old is at pre-school 3 days a week I can finally take the baby out in the stroller.
I don't have any pains yet waiting for my IT band to act back up.
After I drop off my 4 year old I head right out on the trail for a run w the baby in the stroller.
My favorite thing about fall is cooler weather, sweaters and boots, my favorite Apple pie shots, beef stew and running outside!
