Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Baby Eczema...makes me sad :(

So my little one started developing a rash on his face and it wasn't too bad.  But yesterday it looked really red and irritated, so we bought some Baby Aveeno Eczema Therapy lotion.  It started working and relieving some of the redness, however when he scratches his face or rubs his eyes it gets irritated again.  We're scheduling an appointment Monday if we have no luck with the lotion this weekend. Anyone have experience with this or trying this product?  Baby is 1 week shy of being 6mths.

  • We use that too for our LO. She has some on her cheeks that the lotion helped... now she has it on her arms and elbows. Seems to work for us! I only use it as needed. Dr. told me not to bathe her as often... twice a week at most. She will be 4 mo on the 10th.

  • My now-4 month old had eczema which started from his right cheek then went on to the rest of his body. I had put Aqueous Cream on his body to keep it supple, until i figured out what is causing it. it turns out it was the detergent I had used. I had to rewash all of his clothes, then i started seeing changes. Never let the skin dry, put plenty of cream to keep it supple, otherwise it would irritate him and make him scratch and bleed (a bit)..
  • yes we had a similar issue with our daughter. Lavendar oil on the bottoms of her feet helped with the eczema but we also used a sleep sack at night (zipadee zip brand) and it helped tremendously! She could move around but it kept her from scratching her skin and she slept better.
  • Try coconut oil, if not allergic.  This stuff works for everything.
  • The only thing that worked for my older ds was hydrocortisone. He still gets flare ups occasionally, but the hydrocortisone clears it up pretty quickly.

My LO is 5 months started getting dry patches around 3 months and since I had eczema when I was younger I wanted to be proactive about him getting. I tried the Aveeno Eczema Cream and it made his dry patches 10 times worse and turned it into one huge red dry spot on his belly and several large patches on his legs. I think he might have been allergic to some of the ingredients so we switched to BabyGanics for lotion and bath products and what a world of difference that made! The doctor also prescribed a topical corticosteroid for bad flare ups. She also recommended we bathe him every day but don't use soap at each bath and make sure the lotion him up good before his skin dries. That seems to helping as well. Every baby is different and you just have to figure out what will work well for you LO.
  • I used the Aveeno as well. It works but you have to put it on religiously morning and night. My baby's eczema cleared up eventually after using about half the bottle up.
  • Dd1 had eczema. We got it under control by switching to everything-free laundry soap (we use biokleen), eliminated fabric softener, switched to California baby eczema wash, coconut oil after every bath. We occasionally use cb eczema lotion or cetaphyl for atopic skin. For an outbreak that needs something stronger we have a topical prescription of desonide cream. Luckily outbreaks are very occasional w the changes. Now that she's older, I send special hand soap w her to school because she'll get outbreaks on her hand from their harsh ab soap.
