Progesterone Supplements

I've been taking progesterone supplements and am supposed to stop them at the end of my 10th week. But I'm terrified that the placenta won't be producing enough progesterone and I'll mc. My doctor told me 10 weeks is pleanty long to take them but im still scared. Has anyone else had to take supplements? If so, how long?

I am 12 wks and am still taking them. I will find out at my ultrasound and first ob appointment how much longer I have to take them... This is baby 3 and I took them with my last baby till 18 wks

I took mine until 10w1d. By that time I was down to 1 every other day, for a few weeks prior to that I was just down to 1 per day. I was so glad to be done with them, and I really trusted my RE, so I didn't have any fears that he would take me off them and then something bad would happen.

My doc also told me to stop at 10 weeks, but I remember from my last pregnancy that she told me it wouldn't hurt to keep taking them, it just isn't necessary. I, like you, have not been able to bring myself to stop taking them and I will be 12 weeks tomorrow. The situation will soon resolve itself, though, bc I only have 3 left.

Thanks everyone! I trust my RE as well, but might see if I can take them through 12 weeks as I have extra pills and it might ease my worries a bit.

I am also taking them but was hoping I could stop at 10 weeks! My RE said they recommend 12wks and they only tested my levels at the beginning of my pregnancy. I probably could have asked them to test again but I figured it wouldn't hurt to keep taking them, I just hate how yucky they are!

I am on them and was told that I could stop them last week. After stopping them, I had some spotting (that I am pretty sure was related to other things) so my irrational brain told me it was due to the progesterone. I called and they told me if it makes me feel better, I can go back to them and do one a day versus the two that I was on... but once the placenta takes over there is no need for them. I will continue the one a day no further then 14 weeks.

I was told to stop at 12 weeks. I have one more left which I'll take tomorrow. So I'll be 12w 2d.

I stopped at 10 weeks and my vagina is very happy to be done with the progesterone suppositories! I'm 12 weeks today and all seems to be going well.

I was on Progesterone in Oil shots until 9 + weeks, then they took me off. They tested my levels two days later and didn't love my numbers, so i went back on supplements (this time, progesterone suppositories). I will be on them until at least my 12 week visit (next week) at which point they will let me know whether or not to continue. I think, as long as your Dr. has a good handle on your numbers, you should trust them (though as a pp stated, it's not detrimental to stay on the supplements longer, its just not necessary) Good luck!

My RE told me to keep it up until I was 12 weeks, but he also said that he usually just has people stop at around 10 weeks. @Smash1215‌ I agree, my vag will be doing a happy dance when I'm done with those nasty ass suppositories next week.

My OB told me at 9 weeks I could stop, or go from 2 down to 1 a day. At my last appt at 12 wks she said I was able to stop completely but taking more wouldn't hurt either.
So I've been every other night. I only have a couple more so I figure I'd use them up too

I was supposed to take them until 12 weeks but stopped at 11. I just kept forgetting to do it in the am when I was getting ready for work. I had my n/t scan and everything was fine so I guess it was ok

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! I'm glad I'm not the only one worried about stopping them so soon. I talked to my RE and she said to take one a day for an extra week or two if it makes me feel better. We'll see...

I was on it until week 20 with my second, but I did not start until week eight when I started bleeding.

Yesterday my doctor told me to take them until week 13. I was put on them for spotting and they wouldn't have me blood test results for a few days. My levels were fine but they told me to keep taking them to be on the safe side.

If you feel more comfortable taking them to 12 weeks or even longer, just ask your doc. There's no harm in it!

Jennyjen sorry for your loss. How far along were you? Looks like you had your loss in May so were were close.
I will be on the vaginal suppositories until 16 weeks and then I will start injections for the remainder of my pregnancy. I lost my last son 5/30/14 at almost 32 weeks so we are being extra careful this time.

I am on PIO injections until 12 weeks but my doctor said 12 weeks was conservative and she thinks until 10-12 weeks is reasonable.

My Dr told me today to continue until 14 wks just to be safe... But my levels were going up and down
