Gush of brown discharge

I have been having extreme cramps for about a day now and they come and go, I went to the doctor yesterday and he checked my dilation and I was at 2cm and said I would probably deliever in 5-7 days. I was getting such bad cramps that I sat on the toilet just to be safe and i gushed a brown discharge. The doctor said a little bleeding is normal after a dilation check but this didn't seem very normal. Should I call the doctor?
