Persistence headache, a little worried

I've had a headache in the back of my head going on over 24 hours now. I just moved and have not been able to see a doctor due to my insurance not kicking in yet. Not sure if I should worry.. Thinking about going to the hospital if I wake up with the headache still. Any thoughts?

Re: Persistence headache, a little worried

  • Consider 24 hours lucky. I've been getting a headache about once a week that lasts 48+ hours. Tylenol doesn't really help me but I take it. I get minimal relief but at that point anything helps. Headaches are very common apparently. I just chug water, stay in a darker room if possible and keep myself cool. I also drink either a cup of caffeinated tea or a coke. If it continues call a doctor and talk to the nurses. Good luck!

  • I wouldn't go to the hospital for something as minor as a headache. I would try other things first. I've suffered from headaches for years (but they're not migraine level headaches thankfully). I've figured out exactly what works for me. These things are true still during pregnancy, though I used to be able to sleep off headaches, and I can't seem to do that with the pregnancy headaches. I drink a cup of coffee, and a cup a water and take tylenol (it was ibuprofen when I wasn't pregnant). Sometimes I have to throw up too to relieve any pressure.

  • Do you have allergies or are you dehydrated? I would try to drink a lot of water, pop some tylenol and maybe even have a bit of coffee or something before you go to the hospital. Do you think it could be a migraine?

  • Have you BP checked. Pregnancy ca cause an elevation of BP and a headache can be the first presentation. If you don't have a cuff, most pharmacy and supermarkets have a machine (not the best).
  • A mixture of peppermint and lavender oil to the temples has been working wonders for me. I had pregnancy induced migraines last time. Hang in there.

I have been told to stay away from peppermint oil as it can cause contractions to start early.
  • I have been going on day three of a horrible headache. Nothing is really touching it, but I did take Tylenol last night because I was in tears. They suck. I have tried the above mention except the oils and BP and it helps from getting worse but they haven't gone away. I just keep telling myself it could be worse and take the headache-  hoping they go away soon for all of us!!
