Small Fundal Height!

Hey Ladies!

I had my 34 week appointment today and measured with a small fundal height. I go in for an ultrasound tomorrow so I'll know more then but of course I am a little nervous in the meantime.

Any one else have a small or large measurement? What was the end result for you?

I wonder if I'm just dehydrated from doing a lot of vomitting (I've had rough reflux issues with my pregnancy).

Re: Small Fundal Height!

  • I started measuring smaller around 34-36 weeks with DS. Ultrasound revealed he had dropped, which is why it seemed I shrunk.

Fundal height can measure differently depending on the position of the baby and also how you are carrying. I wouldn't worry too much, most likely the ultrasound tomorrow will say everything is fine.

  • I measures small one week and then was normal the next.  Not sure why but my dr wasn't concerned that I was a little.

    Good luck with the ultrasound.
  • I've measured small all along. I was at 29 weeks when I went in for my 32 week appointment. I've not had any testing for it. My midwife considers it a variation of normal and as long as I'm still growing at every visit and baby is still nice and active with a good heart rate, I'll just truck along.

I've also been measuring small pretty much since they have started measuring. My ob also believes it's a variation of normal as i have had no issues during pregnancy with high blood pressure and I'm a small person.

I had an ultrasound last week and the baby was small too. The ob said the things that would be cause for concern were if i had any signs of placental insuffiency including low fluid and poor umbilical artery blood flow, i didn't have any of that on ultrasound. He said not to worry and to keep doing kick counts. I have a biophysical profile next week just to keep an eye on things.

  • Thank you ladies! I will update later :)
  • Glad everything is good!

I had the same thing happen yesterday, belly is only measuring 31w instead of 34w. Ultrasound showed baby is fine size and fluid levels are good.

  • I'm 33 weeks and they said today I was measuring 29 weeks..but had an uktrasound 2 weeks ago and everything looked "perfect." I'm trying
not to worry as I know it's not very accurate when they measure that way.
I'm also 5'6 so I do have a lot of room for her to hide. Hopefully all will check in fine when I go back in 2 weeks!

  • LOL at "tall and measuring small" I LOVE that!
  • dropping in from dec 2014 board! was searching "measuring small fundal height" and was directed here. this info is so very reassuring. i'm currently 30 weeks and as of today was measuring closer to 28. ultrasound on monday to confirm that everything looks okay. up to this point everything has been perfectly normal, and baby's heartbeat is just fine, so i'm hopeful.

good luck and best wishes to all of you in the final stretch!
  • Yep I was measuring "small" too starting around 33 weeks...my doctor isn't concerned as I have a long torso and it's only off a few cm. Fundal height is just a guide and if there are any major differences from one week to the next, then THAT is a reason to be concerned. Don't stress. I'm sure you are fine :)
