Maternity Coat?

Anybody else thinking about maternity coats?  I'm a total cold wimp, so getting a coat is on my mind.

I found this one on ebay that I think is super cute, but I'm not sure it really is a maternity coat.  It looks sort of fitted to me.

What is anyone's opinion?

Re: Maternity Coat?

  • Hard to tell from the pics. It definitely looks fitted. I also know my legs don't look nearly that good pregnant.

  • I know I got a jacket off zulilly, very cute. Looks like a cute jacket not very maternity-ish but if your somewhere very cold looks like it might be nice.
  • It's supposed to be 89 tomorrow. I wish I had to think about a coat.

85 here tomorrow, but we usually have the heat on by mid October.

Seriously though, if nothing else, I will just wear my regular one and not zip or button it.
Yeah if we even get cold enough to require a coat, which I doubt, I'll just wear the ones I have and not zip them.

  • I've been trying to figure out what I'll be wearing too. I don't want to buy a new maternity coat, but I live in Wisconsin and it gets very cold very soon. Was planning on wearing layers and scarves once I can't button or zip all the way, and then borrowing a larger winter coat once it gets unbearably cold.
  • I'm feeling lucky that I held on to a bigger size coat I had that was of the swingy, buttons only at the top variety. It was amost in the goodwill pile a couple times, but I think it'll be perfect for the couple of times we'll actually hit coat weather before January.
  • Lurking from Nov14...I got one with a coupon from Motherhood Maternity that just ties in the front and will continue to work as a regular coat after I give birth.

  • I just purchased a thinner parka from H+M's maternity line. It is very flattering and the sleeves leave room to later over sweaters for the colder days. Good luck in your search!

I got the same one from H&M! Couldn't resist the deal and will just wear a sweater under it for really cold days.
  • Last pregnancy I bought a $40 one from old navy...it was warm
    Enough with a sweater.

And I'm from Canadian eh....so I am an expert in cold.

  • Due 12/1 so I am hoping it doesn't get that cold. Still I am not sure I will fit in my old coat right away. My mom bought be a fleece in large and I can always wear one of my husbands. If you buy one I would say get one that you can wear after that baby is born for this season at least.
  • I'm a Mississippi girl turned Nebraska girl so I definitely need a coat or I'll probably die(melodramatic much?). I was super excited to score a used deep red wool Gap Maternity coat for $10 last week at the thrift store!

  • I work at a horse farm just north of NYC, so I am outside for most of the day. From like the end of November on, it gets cold, and I hate being cold. Even though we have an insulated indoor, it's not heated and I will need a coat. I was thinking about getting this one:

  • I found a $50 pea coat (lighter material) from motherhood. Hopefully that works. I hate being cold!!
  • I'm sooooo hot all the time.  Can't imagine buying a coat.  Hoping to get away with leaving coat unbuttoned for any cold snaps we get in TX.
yeah yeah, rub it in for all of us suffering in the north with some -XX degrees in snow and wind starting as early as next month :( why do I live here?
  • I usually buy a lot of big snuggly men's clothes to wear in the winter, which are big enough that DH will usually "borrow" them from me. Since they're normally so roomy on me I was thinking I'd be able to reclaim them as my own this year and also use one of his coats.
... But considering I am not only bigger around but I also now weigh MORE than him, I see that I may have to spring for my own coat if it gets past just sweater weather by November. We're in GA where you can never tell what extreme you're in for weather-wise, so I'm hoping this year will be fairly temperate.
  • I'm planning on wearing one of my husbands coats or just wearing mine unzipped
  • Buy one if you want one, but I don't think it's necessary (I live in Colorado, and it can get in the negatives here in December).

    Options:
    1) Wear husband's coat (or other bigger person in your life, early on in my career I worked for a woman pregnant with twins and she wore her FIL's coat and she looked great).
    2) Wear your coat(s) unbuttoned
    3) Buy big coat at thrift store (this is my first time around but I've heard you really don't care about much that last month, so whether it's a men's coat or a larger woman's coat, who cares?  You'll likely find a decent coat but then I do most of my shopping at thrift stores and often find very trendy stuff).

Also, I'm wondering if I'll ever get cold as I run so warm these days...

Also, due date has come, gone and I am just so anxious to meet baby!  Please be healthy and strong baby, mama can't wait to meet you :)
  • My sister bought a maternity coat from Mimi Maternity on sale in April when she was like 4 wks pregnant many years ago with the thought that she would use it that winter, then had a MC. Her next pregnancy (which resulted in my fabulous nephew) skipped winter entirely, so she never used it at all. In the mean time, I've been pregnant and two of her close friends have had babies, all with spring/summer/fall pregnancies - she gave me the coat and is glad that someone will finally get to use it.
  • I spent $26 on a new fleece.  I figure I'll be hot and uncomfortable and I didn't want to spend a lot of money.  I can guarantee you that I won't be outside much in December unless it's a nice day and it's at least 60 degrees outside.

Married on October 20, 2012.  Began trying in January 2013.

  • I have been so hot that I can hardly imagine needing or wanting a heavy coat. I have this wool coat/cape thing that is pretty warm and plan to wear it in November/December if I need a coat.

  • I had a surprising amount of foresight and bought one from Motherhood back in June or July when they were on sale and were also doing a buy one get one free on their sale items.  I had bump bucks too, so I ended up getting my winter coat and a blazer for like $35 each!  I guess that's not particularly helpful now, but they do seem to have some really cute ones available now, for a lot more money... :P
  • I am banking on it not being too cold. I refuse to buy a coat for a month.
Ditto. I bought a cape thingus to get me through Fall.

  • My AC is busted and it's like 80 in here. The hormones and extra weight are making me miserable. I can offer you no help but I am so jealous of you living in a place where a maternity coat would be necessary.

  • For the petite moms-to-be out there I totally suggest H&M. I live in cold climate (Canada) so a coat is a must, but I'm finding the limited selection of maternity clothes we have here is all cut too big. I bought this coat and love it (size S, fits like XS/S).
