Trouble TTC

Questions...

Hi Ladies, My husband and I would like to start TTC but we have an issue. My DH can't ejaculate during sex. He's seen doctors about it and they have said it sounds psychological, we've been dealing with this for quite some time. I know that most RE's want to wait 6 months at least before meeting with them. However, we could try for all that time and not have even the slightest chance of getting pregnant. Do I just call the RE and make the appt? Husband is willing to go and wants to try, just didn't know if they will see me since we haven't technically been "trying" for more than 6 months.

Re: Questions...

  • I don't see any problem with seeing a doctor now if you're interested in an IUI.

If you have insurance coverage for infertility, you might have to wait a year, but many people don't, and in that case waiting isn't going to do you any good.

    Good luck!

  • You could try using an Instead Cup. If he can ejaculate another way that is. You just put the semen in the cup and then insert. I've never done it but it might work. Or heck, use a syringe.

  • Clearly if you're TTC you're going to want a chance of sperm meeting egg before 6 or 12 months is up. :) An ejaculation problems sounds like it warrants a visit to a urologist to rule out physical causes, and then there are meds that can help overcome it whether it's physical or psychological, and of course counseling if YH is open to that and needs it. But it sounds like you've gone through these steps.

I would be inclined to say that if you have unsuccessfully been trying to have an ejaculate during sex for an extended period of time, regardless of whether you were using birth control, that may warrant treatment by an RE. Perhaps you could call an RE's office and let them know your situation and ask what they think about moving forward with treatments. An OBGYN who does IUIs is another option but if you are going to do that invasive and expensive treatment, you'll want to be fully tested and monitored.

  • I'm with @curve31, although I thought they were called softcups. If he can ejaculate at all, you can definitely try that. I've seen softcup success stories on some of the message boards. If he is capable of ejaculating I would start there - because medicated cycles are a lot to put yourself through if you don't really need to. If your husband can't ejaculate at all you should see the doctor right away and I really can't imagine them forcing you to wait 6 months before addressing that issue!
    **************
Married in 2011, NTNP until early 2012, TTC since early 2012

My husband was diagnosed with state IV colon cancer in 2009. Surgery and six rounds of chemo left him in remission (yay!) but with low testosterone. He took Androgel for two years starting in Jan 2011.
-SA in Jan 2013: big fat zero; stopped Androgel
    -varicocelectomy in June 2013
-SA in Dec 2013: 23mil/ml, really low morph
-SA in March 2014: Count doubled! Morphology apparently no longer an issue.

    Treatments:
    April 2014: hysteroscopy
    June 2014: TI (clomid/bravelle/ovidrel: 2 folliclces) = BFN
    July 2014: IUI#1 (clomid/bravelle/ovidrel; 1 follicle, 23mil post-wash) = BFN
    August 2014: IUI#2 (clomid/bravelle/ovidrel; 1 follicle, 43mil post-wash) = BFN
    September 2014: IUI#3 (clomid/bravelle/ovidrel; 2 follicles, 15mil post-wash) = BFN
    October 2014: IUI#4 (clomid/bravelle/ovidrel; 1-2 follicles, 12mil post-wash) = BFN
    November 2014: IUI#5 (clomid/bravelle/ovidrel: 1 follicle, 23mil post-wash) = BFN
    December 2014: IUI#6 (gonal-f/ovidrel): 2 follicles, 55mil post-wash) = ???

    *all are welcome!*

  • Thanks ladies! I'm going to look into the softcups idea and call the RE I really appreciate your help and will keep you posted!
