So DH and I have been back and forth on Georgiana pretty much my entire pregnancy. We both love it but can't seem to commit, especially since we can't figure out a middle name (like, at ALL, we've tried everything). A few weeks ago I suggested Gabrielle Elizabeth and we agreed that while we like it, we don't love it, but at least it's something. At this point we're basically undecided so I keep making new suggestions and saying "we really need to name this baby" and DH just nods and then goes back to whatever he was doing. It's driving me nuts! There are a few names we both like but are hesitant to use because they're either too popular (we both have "top" names and while he doesn't really care, it's bugged me my whole life), or have associations that we dislike, or are too similar to DD #1's name (Jacqueline - we like Caroline). So I'm looking for opinions, please - what would you do?

Use Georgiana and skip the middle name (FWIW, DD#1 has a MN and any potential future kids probably will, too)

Use Gabrielle Elizabeth; at least you can both agree

Use Olivia (our top choice for a "popular" name); who cares how popular it is?

Use Heather/Amelia/Abigail, etc...(our top choices for "disliked associations"); you'll stop caring about that once baby gets here

Use Caroline (our top choice for "too similar" name); it's really not a big deal

Go back to the drawing board; you need to find something you love
I like Caroline, but with Jacqueline, my immediate association is with the Kennedys (not that that's a bad thing, but that is where my mind goes.)
Wow, I didn't even realize that. You're right that it's not bad, but I think that pretty much removes it from the table, especially since we were already wary of it. Thanks
Also, thanks for the Georgiana love so far everyone! We really do love it, just can't find the right MN. I'm encouraged now to go back to the drawing board!
Now you are getting somewhere! If you love Georgiana, use it. I liked all of pp's mn suggestions! I would also suggest trying out names to help narrow things down. Baby Name Genie website has this baby name test we found incredibly helpful when choosing. Things like, "Georgiana Renee, get back here!" "Georgiana Last Name's office. May I help you?" You can also try calling your baby different names for a few days to see what feels right. Good luck!

oh, it's a bad thing :-) And I agree - my mind went there immediately.
Keep Georgiana! What is it about a middle name that you're finding so hard? Flow? Length?
Oh, boy, that's a long answer It's pretty much everything. We were originally trying to find a plant/flower name (DD is Jacqueline Iris and if we ever get to use our boy name, it will most likely be Graham Heath) but nothing feels right. We also don't want two long names (ex: Georgiana Elizabeth, Georgiana Caroline). We had thought of Georgiana Heather but not only is it long, I feel like it would be strange to possibly have a Graham Heath and a Georgiana Heather (and we have an association with the name Heather - not a bad one, but it would still feel odd). We also ruled out any a-ending names (ex: Georgiana Olivia, Georgiana Emma, Georgiana Sophia) for flow purposes. And we nixed double-g names (ex: Georgiana Grace) for flow again. And then there are just a LOT of names that are not our style or we don't like. Or one of us likes and the other doesn't (ex: I love Meave, Stella, etc... and DH hates them - the few times he's made suggestions, he usually picks Scottish or Polish names that I can't pronounce so don't appeal to me). So, it's a lot of "we're SUPER picky and can't agree", which I know is obnoxious. I feel silly throwing away a great name but I'm almost to the point where I would rather pick a runner up just to have the decision made. It also doesn't help that DD #1's is in LOVE with Curious George so anytime we say the name Georgiana she hears "George" and gets all excited, thinking she's going to get to watch TV. Which I'm sure she'll get over pretty quickly, but since we can't decide anyway it's just "one more thing", you know?

I think with a 3 syllable first name keep it short and sweet for the middle name. I hope you use Georgiana instead of Olivia, Olivia is so over used. Good Luck!
^^^^ agreed. Georgiana is beautiful and a name i love from P&P. MN are not nearly as big of deal. We barely use R's execpt for formal things. I agree, keep it short and sweet

Yeah, way overthought at this point. Plenty of great suggestions above. I would give up on the flower thing, I think themes are weird. Pearl is always a fav of mine, Faith flows nicely.
I guess I don't get why you *wouldn't* have this issue with a runner-up name as well? Don't dump Georgiana for a MN. That's silly.
I agree you are overthinking this. Find a lovely name and throw it in there. I don't think Elizabeth goes any better with Gabrielle. I also think Heather is fine and do not think it's odd to give Heather and Heath as middle names.
Dude, I don't say this often, but you're totally overthinking this. Georgiana sounds like the number one choice. Just choose a MN. Throw it to your husband if you're too indecisive. Just go for it.
Oh, we TOTALLY are. Lol. We know this It's just that w/DD#1 we knew her name was perfect - we immediately agreed and never second-guessed it. So we keep waiting for that to happen this time and it's not. I think I'll take all this feedback to DH, though, and see what he says; thanks!
Joy2611 - I swear that spelling never even occurred to me!
Ok all, thank you for the input; I knew I was over-thinking this, but I can see now that I was REALLY over-thinking this I'll chat w/DH tonight and see if we can just finally settle on something for the MN - you're all right; it's not that important in the long run.
I don't think Georgiana Caroline or Elizabeth is too long.

Georgiana Lucille. I love Georgiana so much more than Gabrielle, so I think pairing it with anything or nothing is the better option. I do like Georgina even more, it's not as stumbly to me.
I agree, why not use Elizabeth as the middle name for Georgiana? I think it sounds lovely!! But I'll throw some other suggestions out there just in case...

It's perfect. Beautiful. Flows well. It's a plant name too like your DD's. Use it for a few days and I bet you fall in love.
