Painful braxton hicks!

I'm new to this board but recently posted something similar to the third trimester board but got 0 replies so I'm hoping someone here can answer.

I am now 28 weeks but last week i was sent to the ER for very painful BH contractions. I was given 3 shots to stop the contractions and kept overnight. I wasn't dilated and was sent home the next morning. I went in the next day for a follow up and baby girls heartbeat was only 110 when it's usually in the 160s. I'm a little nervous but my doctor didn't say much. He just put me on pelvic rest until my next appt next week. I was just wondering if anyone else had this happen to them and if you were still able to go full term? And is it normal for her heart beat to be so low?

Second PLEASE don't rely on the advice or experience of Internet strangers. You have legitimate concerns and you should call your doctor and ask them. Each pregnancy is different and you really need to address concerns with a doctor.

My doctor is the one who checked the heart beat. He didn't say much on the matter. I wasn't necessarily asking for advice, just trying to see if anyone else has had this happen to them and what the outcome was.

The situations cannot possible be identical. Every single situation in pregnancy is different. There will be no guarantee from an online stranger that everything will be fine. Just ask that same question to your doctor.

"In your PROFESSIONAL opinion will I have any further complications, what does a low heart beat mean, I am concerned to I have a reason to be?"

I think you should call your OB right away if you're feeling concerned about the heartbeat.

No experience here, but I'm sorry you are dealing with this!

I know you aren't asking for advice, but I have to say I'd call and see if you could come in before your next appointment. If you hear a bunch of bad outcomes that is just going to worry you, and if you hear a bunch of good outcomes you may miss a problem that could have been fixed.

Haven't had anything like this happen. What do you mean that your OB "Didn't say much"? In the third trimester heart rate of 130-140 is generally average. I would think that 110 is a little low but only your doc can answer that for you. Thoughts and positive vibes your way.

I'm sorry if I didn't make it clear in my post. I was sent to the hospital for my contractions and given medication to stop them (which worked) my only question was if other moms or mom's to be have had this happen and if you were still able to go full term... as for the low heart beat, I went to the ob and when he said it was low he didn't seem concerned. He just put me on pelvic rest. The OB that i seen however wasn't my normal one so I am going to call and ask my normal ob if the heart rate is Ok.

All this happened last week, you did not see your reg OB while in the hospital, and you have yet to speak to your actual OB about it? Call your OB and discuss what happened, as soon as possible.

And since you have now asked three times, this happened to me with my first child. I was put on complete bed rest for 4 weeks. I hit 32 weeks and was taken off bed rest and aprox 9 hours after my appointment where I was taken off br I was in full blown labor. It sucked. But it is also no reflection to your situation.

This is going to be very long because I am copying it from when I was going through it and wrote it down with my first a little over 4yrs ago.

I went to the hospital at 31wks while having a severe gallbladder attack. They hooked me up to the stress machine to make sure Mathieu was doing ok and found out I was having contractions about 4 minutes apart. They did a cervix check on me and I was already 3cm dilated. They gave me two steroid shots and put me on magnesium, which immediately stopped the contractions. A few hours later, I couldn't breathe, my legs, arms, and face, were super flushed, and I was really jittery. They found out I had Magnesium poisoning and took me off immediately and tried Procardia. The next morning I started having contractions again, this time like 3 minutes apart so they put me on the magnesium again, only on a super low dose, to go ahead and stop the contractions... it worked but I started having the same reaction so they took me off again. Finally they put me on Brethine/Terbutaline (not sure of the spelling...) and it has worked wonders. I still have a contraction or two but my Dr isn't worried. After a week in the hospital I am finally being sent home. I am on bedrest and meds until I reach 35wks.

Obviously not exactly the same circumstances, but yes he made it to term (was 10 days early) so your LO has a very good chance of making it to term as well. GL.

No advice or experience, but I hope you get in touch with your OB soon and everything is okay. I'm sorry this is happening but try not to stress too much before you know more. Good luck!

To answer your question about being able to go full term after being given medication to stop contractions, yes I was able to. With DS I had BH contractions that I knew were BH but they were nonstop so I was sent to L&D at 30 weeks. I was given a shot to stop the contractions and was sent home after being monitored overnight. I never had another contraction until DS was born at 40w3d.

As for the low heartbeat, I think pp have it covered but definitely call your regular OB.

Also read her last sentence in her OP ....is it normal for her heartbeat to be so low.....kinda sounds like she was asking for a little medical opinion in her post.

I don't understand this. Why did you leave the hospital with unanswered questions and obviously serious ones too. I was in l&d a week and a half ago for a preterm labor scare. My cervix is starting to open on the inside. The l and d docs more than adequately explained all my treatment who and when they were notifying of events etc. they gave me discharge instructions that I asked for clarification on told me my uterus was quiet and baby hb sounded/looked great at 140 or something like that which I know to be normal for fetuses in general and it's been pretty avg for mine. IF they told me anything in the world was off I would not be leaving there without asking a million ques and why it's ok for me to leave. If they said we don't know ask your ob id be on the phone when I left the hospital with my reg ob especially for something like baby's hb seeming low to me.

This may have already been stated but isn't putting you on pelvic rest doing something? I mean, the dr didn't just send you on your way with nothing. There was a reason for concern and soyou were placed on pelvic rest. There is a crazy broad spectrum between "just fine" and "get in the hospital and stay." Overly stressing isn't going

I recently went in for a normal 28 week check up and when my doc checked the heartbeat of baby, it was around 125. It freaked me out a little because he's usually around 140. I know that as babies grow, their heartbeat changes and slows. Earlier in my pregnancy, baby boys heart rate was 179. My doctor said anything 110 to 160 at this point is considered normal.

Edit to say: they did offer me an extra ultrasound if I was concerned.

What bothers me most about this post, besides the lame attempt at WK, is the title. BH are not painful, real contractions are painful. For your actual question, I went into preterm labor with Leo at 32 weeks due to dehydration and they were able to stop them and I ended up carrying to full term. DS was born at 39w3d. Not that my situation in any way affects yours but I hope that helps give you peace of mind.

From what I have read and asked my doctor about, Braxton hicks can be painful. Some lady's just get it easier than others in that department. I know I have some pretty bad battles with them ow and then. Nothing that has sent me into the emerg. Keep hydrated and pee lots. That's what I was told!

I am understanding that all was well at the hospital (once contractions were stopped), and your concern is with baby's heartrate by doppler at your Dr's appt the next day. Right?

Normal fetal heartrate range is 110-160. So 110 is on the low side, but still technically normal. If you are feeling baby move (minimum of 10 movements in 2 hours), I would not be too concerned, HOWEVER, I would still call your own Dr so he/she can answer your questions/concerns based on your own history and situation. Also, a heartrate in itself means very little, if there is reason for worry your Dr can order an NST (the monitor on your belly to trace baby's heartrate pattern) which is much more useful in determining fetal well being from 28 weeks forward.
