Outlander (on Starz)

I am loving this show! DH was rolling his eyes at The Wedding episode, but I thought it was great. Just Jamie underdressing Claire was super steamy!

Can't wait for next week! How long is the mid-season hiatus supposed to last...

Re: Outlander (on Starz)

  •  I was disappointed in the Wedding episode. I really wish they had followed it chronologically. I wanted to see Claire drunk out of her gourd and then getting dressed.  In the book, Jaime was the one who impressed in all his glory.  I don't know why they switched that either.

Their intimate relationship just seemed so awkward, but I guess that was the whole point :-)

    SPOILERS:

I think it comes back in January, but with one episode left, I am wondering where they are going to split it.  With they split with more getting to "know" you stuff, or with Claire being captured by the redcoats, or with Jaime rescuing her?

  • I agree with Springtime.  I was disappointed in the wedding episode also.  I had such high expectations for that episode and the episode fell far short of my expectations.

As someone who hasn't read the books (yet), I wasn't bothered by the arrangement of the episode. Starz does these "inside the episode" shorts and the director explained why they progressed through the epi with flashbacks.

I'm interested to find out what happens next week in "modern time." I don't understand how someone knows about Jamie/how he could be there.

  • I am loving the Starz show. I very recently started reading the books and just finished the third one. I think they are going to end the mid season with them going back to Castle Leoch. I get the feeling they will skip the part of Claire getting recaptured by the Redcoats and waste my time with this back in 1945 story line, which I don't like. I am looking forward to some Scots fighting with big swords. This recap has been cracking me up. https://jezebel.com/outlander-recap-omg-they-finally-really-did-it-1637495106
  • Noooooo. I just read it comes back April 4th

I saw the same thing :( I just want to skip Dragonfly in a Amber (it was my least favorite) and move on to Voyager. At this rate, it won't be until the end of 2016!

  • In the books, does Claire time travel back and forth between both time periods...? Do the other characters time travel as well?

  • Yes, at one point she travels back to her modern time. I don't want to give too much away...You have already met another time traveller, and there will be a few more in the books. A few play significant roles and become focal characters (along with Claire and Jaime).

    Hmmm, VERY interesting.

  • Ugh, April?!? I think I might have to read the books before then.

  • You will definitely need to read the books in the next few months. Although, since I know what is coming up, the anticipation is killing me.  Last night's episode was the best yet!

Oh... and you just met another time traveller :-)

You tease! My initial guesses for other travelers were the other healer/herbalist (Geillis), and the housekeeper that believes in the stones. But the housekeeper told Claire in the first episode that she'd never seen a dual marriage line, so she probably hasn't time-jumped herself.

I can't think of anyone new in this episode, besides the tongueless man, the police detective, and the blonde who Frank strangled. I don't really picture any of them as focal characters.

Sigh...off to get on the library wait list...

    :-)

Just remember, like the TV show, it takes awhile to get going.  I know a lot of people have been turned off by the slow pace at the beginning.

  • I started watching the show first and then read the books. I couldn't take the slowness of the beginning of the first book, so I skipped to where Claire goes through the stones, I love the show and I don't know how I'm going to last until April.
