Severe Allergies

So something that has been weighing on my mind recently is this. My father is deathly allergic to yellow jackets and has an epi pen. I am also quite allergic to yellow jackets and also carry an epi pen with me too.

So here's my dilemma recently, it's massive yellow jacket season right now with it being fall. I have no way of knowing if Hannah is allergic or not. You can only find out after you are stung. What happens if she gets stung and is allergic!! I mean I'm fairly certain that if I gave her my full dose of an epi pen it would be quite bad. I know I'm probably over worrying about this but it has been bothering me a lot recently. Any suggestions? Think I should ask my doctor for a kid one just in case, which can get expensive after a while but better safe than sorry right? I mean it clearly runs in the family.

Side note, hubby is NOT allergic, he was stung by one recently with no ill effects. (probably what made my fears that much worse)

    I think asking the pedi about an epi jr is a good idea. Do you have childrens benedryl in the house in the meantime?

    I do, but I'm running low. That would be a good idea. I'll bring up an epi jr next appointment. I just wish there was a way of knowing without getting stung first.

    I would ask for an jr pen and keep Benadryl around.

    Yep I think this is a good plan.

    DH recently asked our pedi about this because he's super paranoid and an allergic reaction scares the crap out of us!!  But the pedi said, they can't just give out epi pens because then everyone would want one.  She said the most we can do is keep Benadryl on hand, keep a close eye on him and call an ambulance if he has trouble breathing after being stung. 

    I would still definitely ask your Dr. about it since it seems to run in the family.  In our case, a paranoid Dad isn't enough to get an epi pen!
