Comfy shoes?

My feet are officially a size bigger than normal...so sore and swollen. I teach so I am on my feet all day. Does anyone have recommendations of cheap, comfy, not terrible looking sandals? I went everywhere yesterday looking for some but since it's Fall, sandals are all getting put away. My school is so stinkin' hot I can't stand closed toes shoes yet though.

Re: Comfy shoes?

  • I wear my Crocs flip flops almost every day. They have a lot of arch support, are super-comfy on your feet, and are better looking than the clogs. The ones I have are all the crocs rubber, but I have a pair with the fabric straps, too. The fabric strap ones are also pretty comfortable but get a little tight when my feet really start to swell. My feet have gone up a size and those all-rubber flip flops magically still fit perfectly. My Minnetonkas are about the only closed tie shoes I can stand right now but they are getting too small.

  • We're already a bit too chilly here for sandals so I've been stuffing my flats with some of those gel insoles that have an arch. It's much better than regular flats and I haven't had swelling (yet).... Although my hips usually hurt from standing.

  • I have been wearing my fur lined sperry's. They are comfortable. Unfortunately as awful and ugly as I think they are, my sister swears by her Uggs shoes (not the boots) being the most comfortable shoes she wore while pregnant, especially since she could just slip them on.

  • Sanuk makes wonderful light weight sandals and shoes with cushy insoles (same material as yoga mats!!)
  • I am also a teacher, but work at an independent school and we are not allowed open-toed shoes!  I bought a pair of Geox shoes and they are so comfy, but my feet do get hot.

Oh gosh I am so sorry. I would die if I couldn't wear open toed shoes. They keep our school so hot. My room is seriously about 80 degrees. It's awful.
  • Croc flip flops here. Love them!

  • I bought a pair of Converse sneakers and Vans sneakers as they are comfy (I have a desk job). Only problem is now it's getting harder to tie my shoes!
  • I have to go business appropriate (boo) so I live in my cole haan nike air flats. Sometimes you can find the nike airs at nordstrom rack or dsw, then they're pretty affordable...

Have you tried picking a brand then going on amazon marketplace or eBay. People might be selling off their out of season stuff by now...

I love the pair I have! They are so comfy and wear great!
  • Croc Flip Flops and Croc Sexi. The Croc Sexi is super comfy and cute. I've had Croc haters comment how cute they are.

My crocs flats are my heaven these days!
  • I am not on my feet all day, so I'm not in your boat, but I am a BIG fan of the "comfort plus" line from Payless.  We all know the shelf life on these shoes is limited bc they won't fit us in a few more months, right?  And besides, I normally wear very cute heels to the office, so it's killing my soul a little to choose comfort over fashion, haha!  But seriously, the comfort plus line at Payless is amazing, and some of the styles are actually pretty cute.  Plus, super cheap is always nice. :)
  • I've been wearing Keds and Clark's, also a teacher. With thin socks my feet don't get too hot in the Keds.
  • I'm living in berkinstocks at the moment. Apparently they are in again! Not that i wouldn't have worn them otherwise, it is just good luck :)

  • I've also been wearing my Birks religiously but they're sandals and the weather is turning cold here (I'm in eastern Canada) so I had to go shoe shopping yesterday. I need slip ons (but not clogs because of foot surgery I had years ago) that are semi dressy because I'm a doctor and on my feet all day and I found Skechers that are dressy and have memory foam in them! Heaven!
  • Ryka sneakers are great and in just saw some cute flats they have. I get them on amazon.
  • I'm a religious ballet flat wearer but they are seriously starting to cause problems. Any comfy and stylish flats out there that will also last in the rain? I'm panting over Hunter boots but we have doctor bills and clothes for DS to pay for, so those will not be in my future.
Yes this was me. I was a 'barefoot style shoe' wearer. Used to run in vibram fivefingers and wore vivobarefoot ballet flats to work. Started getting symptoms of plantar facaitus in the arch of my foot. It can't be just weight gain causing this though as i used to be about 8kg heavier than i am now in the past and wore these shoes with now problem. According to my online research it is probably the muscle stretching hormones that come with pregnancy that was causing my arches to start failing.

Anyway as i said before i am now an avid Birkenstock wearer and have had no more foot pain. I will go back to my old shoes though after pregnancy especially for running.

I just ordered a 2nd pair of Berks (Arizona style) as the ones i had involved buckles and it is starting to get difficult to bend over and do them up!

  • I was having leg cramps and crotch pain a few weeks back. Now I wear Birkenstocks everyday and all that went away. When it gets cold, I will just rock socks and Birkenstocks!
