Munire Nursery Furniture - Chapter 11

I have enjoyed seeing everyone's nursery updates, but they also make me anxious! I'm due in 2 weeks, and we've (not so patiently) been waiting on our Munire furniture to be delivered, which we ordered on July 12. We just found out from the retailer on Friday that Munire/Echelon have filed for bankruptcy, but our crib and double dresser have arrived to their warehouse. However, our 5-drawer chest and conversion kit won't come until January, at the earliest!

I've read online that the Echelon factory closed its production plant on 9/18, so this could very well mean I never get the chest or conversion kit. I'm inclined to cancel our order and just go to Pottery Barn Kids and get a complete set of furniture I know will arrive in 1-3 weeks.

I'm stressed and just want everything done, put away, and set up! Right now, our nursery is a painted room with a heap of baby gear on the floor :(

What would you do???

Re: Munire Nursery Furniture - Chapter 11

  • Are you sure you can cancel your order? If you are, then it depends on how much you like it. In my opinion, the two most important things are in. We only bought DD a crib and double dresser. We bought the extra 5 drawer for this baby and it make the room a lot more crowded and it is mostly empty. I don't think kids really need two dressers so if you love it I would keep it even with the slight possibility it will never come in. What exactly is in the conversion kit? I guess that would have me a little more concerned if it never comes in. Does that mean there is no way to convert it to either a toddler or full size bed? We bought adult rails and a toddler rail to convert ours but I'm pretty sure we could do without the manufacturer specific toddler rail and the adult rails seem like we could have just bought any adult rails.

  • I would cancel (if you can) I know this is something I would probably be stressing over in the back of my mind until January. Go to PB and get it done!
  • According to our paperwork, we can cancel given the circumstances. We'll know for sure when we call tomorrow. They are, of course, closed on Sundays!

We really like the furniture , and it's good quality. We were hoping to continue using it as a bedroom set. With the conversion kit, it will convert to a toddler bed then a full-size bed. Without it, it's just a crib :(
  • I would be concerned about the conversion kit never arriving as well and would probably cancel if that wasn't guaranteed.  Sorry   :(

  • We got all our furniture as floor models and took it home with us that day at a nice discount. I would do that so you know that you can get the items you want in time. I love decorating but hate doing it under a time crunch.

  • Just FYI - PB has a lot of items on back order. We got a crib last weekend because it was in-store (and my frugal hubby borrowed a dolly and pushed it 12 blocks to our apartment) but our dresser/changing table is back ordered until October 11th and it's not even the matching 'set.' I know, the horror, but but the matching dresser was 2 months back ordered compared to 3 weeks. Both the same color and she can't complain so whatevs.
  • We just received a re-order of our Munire double dresser since it came damaged the first time.  It seems like if you really like the furniture it would be worth it to stick with it since the most important pieces are in, but if you're worried you could cancel and get something else.

Just an addition: I love the look of the furniture we received, but the quality wasn't quite what was in the store (rougher finish).  We kept the furniture because we still love it and the rougher parts are where baby won't be touching (bottom of crib, inside drawers), but I wonder if the problems we found weren't indicative of difficulties at the Indiana plant.

  • I would be surprised if you could get quality pieces anywhere without waiting. I totally get your frustration but ordering from somewhere else might actually set your timeline back... I'd make sure first.

  • I feel your pain! We ordered one of their cribs and a dresser with the thought to order the conversion kit a bit later on when money isn't so tight. They called to say my furniture was in warehouse and to tell me about the chapter 11. They recommended I go ahead and order the conversion kit now while they're still available. They also told me they were going to make the conversion kits at another plant that is already in existence making other lines for them. Could be a lie, but I'm hoping it's true and it won't be impossible for me to get
  • Honestly I wouldn't switch for just the conversion kit not being available right now. We never have used ours and probably won't since the crib got pretty beat up with ds1.

  • Ladies, thank you so much! We've decided to cancel, because I feel like January will turn into March and on and on! We went to PBK today and got the Larkin crib and extended dresser with changing table topper. Also ordered a 5-drawer chest...all in the chocolate finish. Amazingly, we've already set the delivery date for Monday, October 6th!

Hopefully, baby stays put until after that, but I feel so much relief :) Thanks again!
