Dorothy?

My mother passed away 2 years ago, her name begins with "d" as does mine. My husband and I are looking for a girl's name that starts with d, he suggested Dorothy. Any thoughts on Dorothy Jane? Is it too old lady? Too golden girls?

I really like Dorothy.

I'm not as fond of Jane, it's just plain and ordinary, and when combined with Dorothy can sound a bit old lady-ish. I'd go with Josephine, Joan, or Jean.

Dorothy is one of those names that I want to like but just don't, unfortunately. And Dottie always just makes me think, "She's a bit dotty."

Maybe ... Dahlia? Diana? Darlene? Delphine? Delia?

If you did go with Dorothy I find the nickname Dory/Dori much more appealing than Dot/Dottie.

Dorothy is my mom's name and she's always hated it, so that makes me dislike it. What about Delia, Della, or Delilah?

Dorothy sounds a bit old lady to me, but I could definitely get used to it on a little girl. I like Dottie or Dory as nns.

I love Dorothy, but it's also my grandma's name and she is legitimately one of the greatest people on this entire planet. People call her Dotti, but I've also heard people use Dorro or Dory for nicknames with Dorothy.

I find it very refreshing. I imagine a 2 year old Dorothy running around playing- SO PRECIOUS!!!! And, I LOVE Dory as a NN. She could also go by DJ for a nn.
