Water triggers nausea

So this sounds really weird, but lately I've been having a really hard time drinking enough water. It just has a weird taste all of a sudden and it makes me feel super nauseous.. I don't know if anyone else has this problem but it's super annoying! Maybe I need to flavor it with fruit?
Also, I know multiple people have asked about this but today I'm 10w1d and ever since I hit 9 weeks my symptoms have been lessening/off and on. I'm way less nauseous during the day and am able to eat a little more, boobs are sore off and on and I get tired off and on. That's normal right? After 3 miscarriages it's hard not to worry a little!

Re: Water triggers nausea

  • yeah i experienced the same till around 10to 11th week i used to put some instant juice powder in it for flavor and it was really hard getting enough water also i live in a hot region so its very important but since my 12th week has started im feeling so good .

  • Same here with the water! I have found squirting the grape kool-aid flavoring in works well for me or the propel packets. Small sips. I have also found room temp. Liquids don't agree with me so everything has to be on ice. Worth a try:)
  • @isha12345 Yeah I live in Florida so it's pretty important here too haha

@HappilyEver I have had an easier time drinking really cold water so that could be it! Thanks for the advice!
  • I got the mio flavors to put in my water! I'm 12w5d, most symptoms are gone but water still sometimes makes me nauseous. Also, my symptoms started to disappear when I was about as far along as you and my baby is healthy and sticky!
  • I've found I love iced water better ,
  • I had HG with my DS and I just could not stomach water. My Dr said plain water is actually really harsh on a sensitive stomach. She recommended diluting apple juice with water and drinking that instead, at least until I was past the all day sickness. I was able to tolerate that much better!

  • I have had an aversion to water on 1st trimester for all 3 pregnancies now - the 1st one I could only drink vitamin water and then realized that was not good for weight gain, then second time around flavored seltzer did the trick. This time I am struggling cuz I prefer to stay away from beverages with artificial flavors, so I am trying to do plain seltzer - a big glass mixed with OJ and ice once a day has been heavenly - and also trying to have a big glass of water at my bedside to sip at night when I wake. At least feeling nausea while in bed is a bit better than the day. Last 2 times it went away in second trimester so hoping I only have a few more weeks of this.

  • I can only drink 3 things: diluted apple juice, chocolate soy milk, and I get one can of cherry coke per day.

The apple juice/water combo has kept me way more hydrated than anything else.  Cherry coke helps with mid-morning nausea.  Chocolate soy milk helps me get more calcium in since regular milk and regular soy milk make me nauseated.

Good luck, hope you find something that works for you!

  • Same here with the water. I dilute juice and make it half water half juice so my sugar intake isn't too high.

As far as your symptoms lessening, it's normal. Enjoy those days when you feel good.

  • Thank you all so much for your responses! They've all been extremely helpful. I tried the ice/cold water this morning and it was much better. I will also try watered down orange juice-I've been drinking it normally like crazy the past few weeks so it will help to not get as much sugar.
  • Try distilled water, when I had the stomach flu the doctor said that it's a lot easier on the stomach so if you've been throwing up drink distilled water. I haven't been able to try it yet but I know people that swear by it. Hope this helps :)
  • I'm 10w2d and still having a nauseated feeling for most of the day. I've found sparkling water with the different flavors helps. It doesn't have any sugar or sweetener in it. Also, I've heard as you get closer to second tri symptoms can start to get better. GL, I hope you feel better!

  • I have an easier time with water now, but for a few weeks I would vomit as soon as I drank it. I know it's important to drink water, but a lot of ladies I've talked to just say do whatever you have to do to make it through the first trimester, and if that's drinking coke slurpees every day because it's half frozen consistency is what you can get down so be it.
  • I can't stomach water either. I try to just chug it down because I get dehydrated fast, but ugh it's awful. If I put a lot of ice in it, it's better, or if I'm chewing gum it helps. I bought some things to put in water, and I'm going to try it out today. If I'm feeling dehydrated I'll get a vitamin water to help out. Hoping this doesn't last longer than the 1st trimester.
  • I just found the best thing! Get a good flavor enhancer and put it in seltzer water! I bought Perrier carbonated mineral water and strawberry watermelon mios. Tastes like strawberry pop with no sugar salt calories or caffiene (just double check the label). There are a ton of flavors and will help you drink enough water without it being just plain ol' water! Hope that helps :)

Wow I didn't know this was even an issue but I'm glad I'm not alone! It sucks, but hopefully it ends for us all soon haha
I'm definitely going to try the natural stuff before I do artificial, I hate that everything has chemicals and fake stuff in it. And tea with lemon water is the next thing to try because now I'm ridiculously constipated. As much as I love that this pregnancy is actually sticking, these symptoms are killing me :-<
  • The only time I can drink plain water is if it has a ton of ice cubes and is freezing cold. Otherwise it is diluted apple juice or water with Crystal Lite flavor powders.

I actually didn't know this was so common!

  • I can't drink any thing with out being ill it such a pain but hopefully will get better with time I have tried all the tricks and none seem to help x
  • Water has been heavy on my stomach. Cold seems to help. But with my first room temp worked best.

I haven't read this symptom in any book, so I thought I was alone. Water and I are not friends now. I'm only craving cranberry juice, but I don't drink more than a glass due to the sugar. I've been sucking on ice throughout the day which helps, but I'm going to try the diluted recipes that were mentioned.
  • Yeah I can't drink water either so i eat LOTS of fruit that are high in water and eat ice pops.
