Hali

Pronounced Hal-lee.  Like Halle Berry.  I came across this name in baby name fb article.  It means "sea" in Greek. Do you you like it?  My daughter's name is Riley so if I have another daughter (not pregnant yet!) I'm thinking of using this name.

Re: Hali

  • Why not just spell it Halle?
  • Loading the player...
  • I've considered it. Hali is just the Greek spelling.

  • I like it. I would probably prefer the Halle spelling but if Hali is more significant to you, then I don't think it's bad.

  • I don't love the look of it, but if it's a legit spelling, then okay. It sounds nice.

  • I prefer it spelled Halle and I don't really like it either way especially not with a sister named Riley. I don't like rhyming names for siblings.

  • You could also spell it Hallie - the stuffed hippo in Doc McStuffins. Hali looks odd for some reason
  • No!  All of it is just wrong.
  • I only like the Hailey spelling. Hali looks odd.
  • ^sorry. I'm dumb. I was thinking hay-lee.
I like Halle more than Hali.
  • I don't like it at all. I agree with PP that it's matchy with Riley, and prefer Halle. Halle really isn't my style either, but at least it's a legit and less juvenile spelling.
    This.
  • I see Hali and read Hail.  I don't care for Halle either but it's better.
  • I love Hali! I love how it's spelled and I love it's meaning.
  • I'd go with Hallie if that's the pronunciation you're after.  Hali is a bit confusing and looks like you;re trying for a unique spelling.

As an alternative, I worked with someone named Hala (hey-la) and loved her name.  It's uncommon but not too unusual.

  • I grew up with a hallie, it's nms, and I prefer the hallie spelling to Hali but that's also a personal opinion and mostly based on it being the spelling I knew growing up.

  • Hali opens yourself up for misspellings and mispronunciations.
  • First time I've ever seen Hali. It's cute -- doable, but I prefer Hallie.
  • Hali looks a little unfinished to me.  I do know a Hallie that pronounces it the same way.

  • Hali looks like it'd be pronounced Hah-lee...  I much prefer Halle.
That's what I was thinking too.
I have known two Hallies and one Halle that pronounce it the same way. At a glance I would think Hali rhymed with Bali.
