My 1st grader wants to start reading chapter books when we read together before he goes to bed at night. Mostly, I would be reading to him. Any suggestions? If I have to read Frog and Toad or SkippyJonJones for nights on end I might lose my mind :-)
Another for Magic Treehouse. The best part is that if she likes them, you can just keep going because there are so many of them! We usually break up a book over 2-3 nights and borrow them from the library.
DS1 also enjoyed Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the Narnia series. Narnia is pretty religious, but we liked it.
DS's kindergarten teacher read Charlotte's Web to the class last year.
I am currently reading Pippi Longstocking to DS. We're going to do How To Train Your Dragon or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Next. I love Holes, and A Little Princess, but I am going to wait on those.
I'd recommend most stories by Dahl, Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary; or the Encyclopedia Brown series.
We have done many of the ones mentioned (Charlotte's Web, Ramona series, Charlie and the chocolate Factory, The Boxcar Children). Also we did the first Little House book and I just ordered the complete set for xmas. I also read Island of the Blue Dolphins but didn't remember it well, she wasn't old enough. I had to do some spontaneous editing...oops. We're currently reading one called Magic Elizabeth which she seems to like quite a bit.
Re: Good chapter books to read with my 1st grader?
