Thank you this was perfect timing! I just started the Ferber method tonight and am sitting here feeling horrible listening to her cry. This helped to remind me of why I'm doing this

Thanks for sharing! Going through sleep training now, actually started last week! Interested to hear how other mommas and babies are making out...

I don't think there's anything wrong with CIO if you're up for it. I'm glad this article doesn't take the stance that it's inevitable and you HAVE to do it, though. Because that irritates me.

We did it a couple weeks ago and it was absolutely horrible for a couple days, but now it is wonderful. Not just for my getting more sleep, but LO is a different baby! She went from fussy and unhappy ALL the time, to contented and smiley! I truly beileive the short term pain was worth the long term gain that she is getting from several hour + naps each day and only 1-2 night wakeups.

We just started last night like I said but LO slept from 7:30-2:30 which was awesome and then until 7. Woke up super smiley and content. Also cried for less than a min a few times in the night and got herself back to sleep. She has never ever done that, she was always one of those babies that needed help getting back to sleep. Every. Single. Wake up. I'm not saying all of our sleep problems are cured since its only been 1 night but it was sure a good start!!

I was planning to start with LO last night too but panicked when she rolled over and threw a fit. I couldn't remember what I was supposed to do for that. I had done CIO with my first at 10 months so the rolling thing was never an issue. It worked great for my first though. Only took 3 nights with very minimal crying and she just turned two and still sleeps well.

I pulled out my books last night and gave myself a refresher. We are trying again tonight!

A lot of the various sleep books I read said (in not so many words) that if you don't sleep train your kid will sleep poorly forever, a poor sleeper is always a poor sleeper, etc. I also got a lot of pressure from other moms with my daughter to cry it out, and our family doctor was always encouraging us to use some form of sleep training or another.

What do they say to do for rolling. I want to start training, but DS gets on his stomach and gets stuck, then cries.

@LindsayB0505 Basically all the things I could find say to leave them be, which might result in some tummy sleeping so you need to be prepared for that. If you are doing interval checks instead of full extinction method then some say you could roll them back onto their backs but only at your "scheduled check in" not sooner or baby might figure out thay rolling will get you to come in.

We started again last night and she never rolled. She had a great night too. I am scared to feel hopeful but I have to say right now it feels to good not having slept in a chair for the first time in months!
