Since we have so many new posters that want to be active, how about your unpopular opinions?

Mine: I think we've become too kid-centric in our society. I just think about all the times we as working moms beat ourselves up about not getting enough time, quality time with our kids. But in the past it seemed like lots of moms stayed home and had domestic help and they didn't seem the least concerned with tracking the time they spent with their kids. I feel like sometimes I have to work all day then be my children's cruise director on the evenings and weekends. I think it's ok to just all be together even if not interacting on something specific.

I'll go.

I don't agree with the hate of over posting on social media and the hate of selfies. I love Instagram, FB, and Twitter. I also take many more pictures of my kids and myself with my kids because of them. I also like to look back at all my old posts and pictures. It's like a digital scrapbook of my kid's lives.

I think risk-aversion has become a phenomenal game of one-upmanship. Like, "I can prove I'm a better parent than you because my child has never had a peanut, anything with wheat, or refined sugar, and wears a helmet every time he plays on the monkey bars. Oh, and I kept him rear-facing in a car seat until he was 10. And he wears a bubble-wrap suit and knee and elbow pads when he rides his bike, even though that means he can't actually pedal. And even though we live in a cul de sac in a gated community, he isn't allowed to walk next door alone to play with the neighbor kids."

I'll play!

I think too many people are addicted to their smartphone. My DH included. I go out to eat and I see couples heads down, looking at their phones, not talking to each other. i really wonder what this is going to do to our kids.

My DH does this and i am on him about it.

The most annoying thing I hear from single friends is the whole "he's a great guy, he's just so busy so we haven't talked in a couple weeks but he's a great boyfriend". I don't know what has happened to these women, but a boyfriend who is "too busy" to call you for a couple weeks is not a boyfriend, he is a jerk. Same goes for husbands. If your husband is "too busy" to talk to you or help with things he needs to take a look at his priorities (mine included from time to time!). I have to really employ a filter in these convos to avoid being harsh with these women. Everyone else is all sympathy and it makes me want to scream.

@shauna813 I completely agree about the PSL obsession. I actually don't really like the taste of pumpkin and I'm totally grossed out by all of the pumpkin flavored foods that are out. Marshmallows, Oreo's, Pop Tarts - none of these things need pumpkin flavor.

Yessss.

I don't get the nail art trend. I find it distracting when people have designs on their nails and not at all pretty.

Also, I don't like wall decals. I think they look cheap. They are ok in kid's rooms if they are done tastefully, but I don't really understand why people are putting them up as central decor in their homes.

I agree with this! Let's be real - these are stickers for adults.

OK, I'll play. Can't stand the social media posts about how WONDERFUL their husband or kids are. JUST WONDERFUL. What is missing from your life/marriage that you feel the need to repeatedly proclaim this to the world?

On the flip side there are a couple friends I tend to follow on FB because their posts and dry sense of humor have me crying from laughing so hard!

This is apparently unpopular where I live.... but no one cuts their kickpleats. You know, when you buy a new skirt of jacket, and the pleat at the bottom is sewn with a little "X" across it to prevent it from getting all wrinkled and bent out of shape while in the store? NO ONE HERE CUTS THEM. I'm obsessed. I want to follow people around with a scissors, or at the very least tell them, but I see at least 4-5 people a day, and it makes me think they're doing it on purpose. But it looks dumb.

I can't stand it when people post "happy birthday" or "happy anniversary" or "I love you" messages on their spouse's facebook wall - you live together! Can't you just tell each other in person or over the phone? DH never posts on my FB wall because he knows I'd find that annoying. Sadly a lot of my close friends do that so maybe I'm just weird.

I work in the financial district - lots of suits and business-like skirts with the slit in the back. Maybe kickpleat is the wrong word... also called a vent, apparently? So the slit in the back of a man's blazer or suit coat, or a woman's skirt, and it's always sewn shut when you buy it.

No one ever cuts that stupid X of thread off! Often it's in white thread on a black skirt, for example.

I absolutely think that we're raising a generation of entitled sissies. And everyone - including me - is stuck in this trend because there's so much parent shaming if you dare venture off the child worshipping path.

Banana Republic and The Limited have these on clothes sometimes. I've cut them abt 50% of the time if I think it'll look better having the crease/fold/layers separated. But I honestly have no idea if you are supposed to cut it or leave it be.

I feel like I must know not enough assholes, because I really don't see all the "bratty" and "sissy" kids that are being raised.

I guess my UO is that I think it's ok to like kids and to treat them like tiny human beings?

I agree @Amy052006‌. Treating a child like a child is not worshipping them and creating entitled sissies.
