stash building help!

Soo I went through my diapers bc I wanna see what I still need....I have 3 newborns covers 6-10 lbs* ill need flats/prefolds* 1 applecheeks 7-20 lbs. 2 thirsties size one 6-18lbs *ill need flats/prefolds* 1 one size cover. 19 one size pockets. I'm thinking of getting some nb aio for husband and lazy days! Idk how many I should get. And should I get some os covers? Aggg ;)

Re: stash building help!

  • No offense, but the asterisks and random periods make your post kind of hard to read. It looks like you need a few more NB covers so you've got at least 6 but preferably 8. I would also recommend fitteds instead of AIOs b/c they fit better and are less prone to leaking. (I had some of everything, and the AIOs are a bigger PITA than anything. <except Simplexes -- those are great!>) If you go the fitted route, it's nice to have 8 or so for night time changes.  And I wouldn't count on the ACs fitting right off the bat.

  • You want a total of 36 nb changes. So if you want to add some AIOs to your stash, the number depends on how many flats/prefolds you get for your covers.

I wouldn't worry about anything else OS until baby is here and you know what you like.

Ok thank you. So I need at least 36; being fitted, aios, or flats! And you think a couple more covers for nb! I have some os coming in the mail and they say they fit 5-30 lbs, but what I have read and gathering that I shouldnt really believe that, and they probably wont fit the baby until about 10 lbs. Is that correct!?

Correct, unless your baby has really chunky thighs, they usually don't fit until around 10 lbs.

It's the leg openings that are the hardest fit on newborns, because they usually have tiny little chicken legs.

And I second going for some fitteds for easy changes.  My Pure and Naturals did not fit well at birth and I ended up just using prefolds and covers.

  • I am attempting to build my first stash also and came across this. I was looking at Nicki's diaper covers. The newborn size is 5-10 lbs and the small is 7-18 lbs. Obviously it depends on my baby but say my baby is 7 lbs, could I get away with the size small and skip the newborn size? I just don't want to buy all 8 in a newborn size and then i have an 8lb baby and no covers that fit?  My thoughts so far are to get 2 of each. I hate decisions so I compromise ;)  I have also looked at the rumparooz covers and those say 4-12 lbs which seem more useful to me.

  • I feel like nickis covers run huge. Even with a big baby, you really need newborn covers.
Maybe go with something like blueberries, mine still fit at 15 lbs.

those are good options, because it isnt uncommon for a baby to outgrow a nb diaper before OS diapers fit, and those are in between, and last much longer than nb.
