I know this is stupid and bound to happen, but I'm a ftm so it's all new! I'm 18 weeks and had to take my wedding rings off from swelling, anyone else at the point already? Also, have any of you gone out and just bought cheap rings?

Re: anyone else?

  • Still able to get my rings on...for now. No I won't be getting cheap rings, that's not my style but I've known some friends who have done that.

  • Mine still fits perfectly! I haven't had any swelling though! I'll probably cry the day my ring will have to be taken off! Maybe I'll be lucky and that wont happen!
  • With my previous 3, I swelled at the very end. Not enough to have to remove rings. Are you eating very salty foods? Are you staying hydrated?
  • Mine is still on, but DH has told me to take it off all week, he said it looks like my finger is being hanged, lol.

My hands swelled up very early, 1st trimester- my engagement ring still fits, but barely but I can't wear my wedding band. I did buy a plain rose gold band I've been wearing but it makes me very sad. I did the necklace thing for a while but felt like it was scratching the inside of my rings.

I'm seriously considering at least getting a quote to see how much it would cost to size my rings up a half size...my rings were always on the smaller end.
  • My rings fit until the last four weeks or so last time around, but it took almost 3 months to get them back on!!

  • So far my rings are still able to be taken off and put back on with no issues. Though, I am told the swelling is the worst during the last 4-6 weeks. Try and drink more water and eat foods with lower sodium. That will help cut the swelling down quite a bit. Good luck!

I haven't had any problems yet but I am sure I will eventually. I just got a new setting in June for my 10th anniversary and am not looking forward to taking it off.

Oh, I did have to wear a CZ/silver engagement ring w/ my first two. I got it on Etsy and it is beautiful! It looks completely real so I didn't mind wearing it. :)

ETA - here is the woman I got it from (and the same ring). She was really nice!

  • Yes to the swelling. I have a right hand diamond ring from an anniversary gift and will be getting it resized but my wedding ring will be in the safe for the time being.
  • So far I have had no swelling, but one of my previous coworkers did end up taking off her rings when her fingers got too swollen near the end of her pregnancy. She didn't wear them on a chain, but just waited until they fit again. She said the swollen feet/ankles were more of a problem (can't just rock flip flops in the winter).

  • With my DD I had to leave my rings off at about 20 weeks. About 6 weeks after she was born I got them back on. I am 18 weeks and 1 day and they actually still fit pretty good. I am not holding my breath though, I'm sure in the next couple weeks I will swell up.
  • I haven't had any swelling yet, but I know it's coming at some point. Last pregnancy the swelling came on so fast and severe I had to get my rings cut off. I tried everything to get them off without cutting them. The jeweler tried all his tricks in vain too. They had to be cut. This was around 30-35 weeks.

When they fixed them they also re-sized them a half size larger. I'm not sure if I'll have to take them off now or not. But if the swelling even STARTS to get bad, they are coming off immediately.

  • I can't get mine off. It doesn't hurt or anything. Same thing happened last pregnancy. They put tape around my rings for my c/s.

  • I just wear the band now. Both won't fit.
  • Actually my husband called me panicked because he only saw one of my rings in the dish this morning. Poor thing was looking down the drain and everything
  • @sassyb77‌ I couldn't wear mine half of my last pregnancy, but wore them on a necklace instead of buying cheap rings. @Trin42‌ -- do you have a gold necklace that won't make you break out?

  • Mine was a bit big to start so I have a feeling I'll be good for awhile. I might consider a cheap ring but haven't really thought about it yet. I've been eying this gorgeous aqua marine and white sapphire ring for awhile... I might just push DH to buy it and wear that in its place. We'll see.

  • Interesting that people would actually go buy a new ring or wear the ring in other ways for a few months. I'd just forgo it, not like it makes me less married if the ring isn't on my finger or I need it to remind me of DH.

I've been having issues with mine lately and I'm looking into those Qalo rings. Supposedly they're great for pregnant fingers and they're not expensive. I want one for DH, too, since it's hard for him to wear his actual ring at work.

  • I would probably take mine off and wear DH's band. I love his band and it does have a small diamond, but he never wears his because of the nature of his work. It was also his grandfather's. I've often said that I should get it sized down to be a right hand ring for me.

  • Never had to take my rings off. Hoping it's the same with baby #3.
  • Not my fingers, but my ankles are swelling from being on my feet 8 hours a day. Maybe I'm noticing a slight weight gain in my hands?
  • Thankfully I have yet to get my ring sized from our wedding in May. I wear a ring snuggie. The ring is a size 7 and my fingers are a size 4.5 so I'm not too worried about swelling and not being able to wear it.

However, if I was in your shoes, I would probably get a little something to wear until I could wear my original again. And only because i'm VERY proud to be married. :) I like to show it off as much as I can.  We are still newlyweds. :D
