  Shooting pains doesn't sound like contractions. Sorry.
  
  Contractions are more of a crampy, stretchy pain that comes on with a peak and then tapers off. If these pains become longer (like, lasting a minute or so) and come and go, then it's contractions!

  I'm having a little sharp pains in my crotch too, and general "bruised" type pains.... Doc today said it's normal -- from relaxin hormone and pressure of baby/weight on pelvic bone

  I got the bruised ones too.  Makes me walk like I've been horseback riding all day.

  After 12 hours of BHs getting stronger and closer together, and still being nothing, I'm banking on the fact that when it's real I'll know. If you're not sure, you probably have some time...

  I've been getting those shooting pains for over a month now, sometimes very frequently so probably not a sign of labor. The other day I did have some contractions and they started with back pain followed by a tight crampy feeling in my stomach. I wasn't sure if that's what I was feeling (FTM) but my doctor confirmed for me that that's what I should be looking out for.
