Name too similar?

We found out yesterday that we're having a boy! My husband and I have loved the name Harvey for some time now- although we're not telling people names until after the baby is born. However, now I'm not sure if we should use Harvey. My dad, who had a horrible relationship with his father, asked me, whatever you do, just don't name him Henry, which was his father's name. Suddenly I'm nervous- does Harvey sound too similar to Henry? Would love some thoughts on this!

I don't think it's too similar but if you believe it may offend your dad I would just run it by him before you have already written it on the birth cert. Honestly I've changed baby names about 3 times now so I would wait until you are closer to your due date and make sure that name even sticks with you. But as far as if you decide to stick with the name for me personally I would just express my concern to my father and ask that he keep the name to himself. Hope this helps. You should be able to name your child whatever you want. I def don't think they are too similar. i understand you want to follow your fathers wishes but I don't think it is really his place to dictate what you want to name your child.

BTW: I have an Uncle Harvey and he is my Fav of them all so its a great name!!!!

I do not think it's similar at all. Like a PP mentioned, if you are comfortable sharing the name with your dad, I would run it by it to get his reaction. Even though the name is completely up to you and your DH, I would not want to give my child a name that my father has a bad association.

I agree with all PPs. You should feel comfortable naming your baby whatever you want but if it is that important to you not to offend you dad you can run it by him. Throw a few names you like or are similar on a list and let him read through. That way he doesn't know which one your choosing and won't feel obligated to like the name because he lives you. I personally don't think they're similar at all. Harvey makes me think of Batman so I love it.
