Yes, another name poll 8-| I need help though. I have a favorite, DH has a favorite and all 4 are amazing even if we can't come up with a middle name for more than one (feel free to chime in).

Re: Name That Baby!

  • I like all of them. Audrey would be my favorite of the 4 closely followed by Rosalyn. What about Audrey Rose?

That's so pretty. Girls names are so much harder than boys names. This option is going on the list for DH to look at when he gets home.

That's what I figured. Thanks for clarifying. I think Merida is pretty, but people may pronounce it incorrectly.

  • I voted for Eliza because it's pretty and not as common.  I used to like the name Audrey until DS started kindergarten this year.  In a school with 5 kindergarten classes of about 18 students each, there are a total of 9 Audreys!  When DS talks about the 2 girls named Audrey in his class he adds their last initial to distinguish between the two.  I had no idea how popular this name has become.

  • @FlowerPower16 and @animalcrckr, you've addressed two of my biggest fears. I hated being know as an initial my entire life and don't want that for a child and I don't want anyone saying the name wrong constantly.

  • I voted for Eliza because I think its really cute but not too over used. I know Audrey gets a lot of love these days, but its just not tops on my list.

Merida is definitely unique, but I'm not sure how many pronunciation problems you'll have. My name is Merideth and I have red curly hair, so ever since Brave came out people have made the connection and pronounced the name right. I know not everyone has seen Brave, but I think it does always help the "say it right" cause when there is a Disney princess with the same name.

  • Just so you know...! I think Merida is beautiful, but when DH and I watched the movie, we realized that when it's said quickly, it sounds an awful lot like the Spanish/French/Italian/Portuguese word for "shit" (merde/mierda/etc.). Eliza and Audrey are both gorgeous, but I voted for Audrey (it reminds me of the chick in Little Shop of Horrors, which is not a bad thing!).

ETA: I'm assuming you got Merida from the movie Brave? that's what I meant by watching the movie :)
I love everything about this. Brave is where I first heard it, Audrey is from Little Shop of Horrors and I asked DH if saying Merida too fast sounded like merde last night.

  • Rosalyn gmv. As for middle names, do you have any family names you'd like to use? Here are some different mn suggestions than the usual fillers: Hope, Renee, Kate, Mae, Louise, Jane, Christine, Leigh.

  • I feel dumb asking this, but: is Rosalyn pronounced ROZ-a-lin or ROSE-a-lin?

  • Love Rosalyn & Merida! Both are beautiful & unique.
  • I love Rosalyn but I'm partial because we're naming our daughter Roslin which is part of the same name variant family. :)

I would go with a one syllable then. Rosalyn Hope Renee. Rosalyn Kate Renee.

  • I have seen Rosaline Kate before which is sweet. People pronounce it both ways, though...
Meredith or Meridith may be a nice way to have her be Merida for short, maybe?
Elizabeth with Eliza for short is sweet too I think.

But I like long formal names. Lucille, nn Lucy is DD.

OK, with that pronunciation, my vote is cast for Rosalyn! Is the other pronunciation I listed very uncommon? I don't personally know any Rosalyns or Rosalinds, and so I might pronounce it with a long O at first glance (though obviously not after being corrected). Just a note that that might be a concern with that name choice...

    ...or I could just be a special-case-name-dunce. :)

  • I like them all, but I voted for Audrey. I didn't realise it was so common though. I like Rosalin and Merida too. And Eliza isn't bad, just knew someone named that and it kind of tarnished the name for me a bit.
  • @chicagojackie‌ Eliza was a compromise with DH. He was against Elizabeth because of a "this one girl in high school who" story. That's also why we're looking at Audrey instead of Aubrey.

  • FWIW, Eliza is a super popular name where I am...My son is in a class with THREE! And I hear it quite a lot at lessons and parties. But it's a pretty name so of course it's gaining popularity:) I like Rosalyn the best I think.
  • I had a hard time picking bc I did like them all. Eliza is my least fav. Merida is unique and cute!

I voted Eliza...it was on our list of middle names for this LO since mine is Elizabeth. FWIW, I think Rosalyn and Ronan sound too similar for a sibset. BUT...Ronan and Merida sound pretty kickass together...like two little warriors or something.

  • I voted Eliza because it just has a nice ring to it. Maybe Eliza Renee Hope?
  • @AF9211, I was worried about how close Rosalyn and Ronan sound. Sometimes I see it and hear it but sometimes I don't. I wanted to avoid R names all together but Rosalyn is so pretty and Rosalind Franklin was such a badass chick.

  • I voted for Rosalyn! I love the nick name Ro. I like it with Merida as a mn too!
  • Audrey is way too common for my taste, but Eliza is adorable! If I didn't already have Adeline picked out I would consider Eliza. For middle names I like ones that have meaning, like a family tie. What's your middle name or your moms or something like that?
