Absolutely. Your baby won't get their first shot until 2 months. Pertussis is deadly and it is on the rise. It's recommended for anyone that will have contact with your child. I got one at my 6w prenatal appt with my first. My husband is due though.
Adults should have a tetnus shot every 10 years anyways, so this is tetnus, diphtheria and pertussis all together. It makes sense to get it to protect YOU and BABY!
If you plan on being out in public at all with your Baby before they are fully vaccinated for pertussis - then you should get the shot in your 3rd tri.
Babies DIE from whooping cough. It is preventable with vaccination.
Totally need to do this! I got mine last year when I told my doctor we were going to start trying (before we pushed it off). It's only one shot. Your husband will need it, and probably even grandparents if they plan on being around a lot.
As a teacher, I was exposed to it this week. Called my OB and they said there is nothin they can do becUse they ofer the vaccine at 28 weeks. I guess I'll cross my fingers......
Whooping cough is terrible! My friend has four kids and all were infected last winter. It took moths to get rid of it and they were Quarantined to there home for a long while. They were in and out of the hospital. I watched there baby turn blue and pass out from coughing its a scary scary thing. If a doctor has recommended that you get it I would get it.
My OB has you get it in the hospital after delivery but before you leave. I had pertussis in 2010(like one person mentioned, I didn't know adults needed boosters then!) and it is some SERIOUS shit. I was sick for 3 solid months, way worse than pneumonia, and I get a bad cough now still if I get sick or run down.
Due with #5 April 22, 2015. It's a girl!!!!!
Yes it was planned, yes we know what causes that, no we are not on public assistance, and yes we will be getting cable after this.
F15 lurking. I had whooping cough as a young child while my mom was pregnant (so I was about 9) and I remember being quaranteened like all freaking summer while everyone else got to play. It was terrible and very scary for my family since my little brother was due any day. Def get it!

If I were you I'd ask for it early. Having the vax in the third trimester passes on some antibodies to baby so they are better protected until they can get their own vaccination at 2 months. Having it after the baby is born passes on no antibodies (maybe some if you BF).
@bowman958 you know I never really thought about it but maybe that's why I got it then? I've BF all my kids so I never really thought to question it. I did just go read the CDC info on it and it's been recently updated, so it's very possible things have changed since Aug 2013. I'll check with my OB on this for sure, thanks!!!

If your OB won't do it, call your regular doctor. They probably can give you the booster. And if they won't, tell them you got a cut and need a tetanus shot...
Anyone know about second babies that are close together? My family got it right when she was born (14 months ago)...wonder if they need another one so soon? They're great and will do anything, just didn't think about it honestly. I'll look it up too just wondering if anyone knew off hand.

Your family just needs to be up-to-date and the booster lasts 5-10 years or something
Only reason we're supposed to get another, merely 2 years later, is to pass some protection to our babiez. When you get the vaccine it triggers your body to make a bunch of antibodies, and if you're doing that while pg some of the antibodies pass to your baby.
Thx @somerandomchick ! I'm getting it for sure but wasn't sure about my hubs/caregivers. Xoxox
Re: Whooping Cough Vaccine
the TdaP shot is TOTALLY NECESSARY.

My OB said they are recommending it during EACH pregnancy even if you aren't otherwise due for the shot. It gives the residing baby a better immunity.
I had a shot in 2012 and will again in early 2015.
