s/o Nursery...how to decide on a crib?

I'm feeling overwhelmed at picking out a crib. There are so many choices, but I can't decide! Between the style, wood, etc. Ugh, anyone else in the same boat (also ftm here!).

I so wish I was at a point where I felt comfortable picking out stuff.

I am really investigating low VOC furniture. Problem is this shit is too damn expensive.

We just went with IKEA for affordability. Spent $104 (that's with taxes) on the crib, originally was thinking about getting a $400 dollar convertible crib, but kid will probably chew it up, then you have to pay for the conversion kits etc, when we could have bought multiple beds for less for $400 bucks at IKEA. The IKEA crib also becomes a toddler bed

We also bought a dresser and night stand from them. We won't be too sad if kid colors on furniture or chews it up :P

Here is our nursery so far, still a work in progress! We splurged on the chair, $400 dollar leather recliner. We decided not to get a glider and get something we could move downstairs when we are done having kids and can use/will match other furniture!

Nice! We are getting the Sundvik from Ikea this wknd. What mattress did you end up going with? Did you get it from Ikea or some place else?

I used the baby bargains reviews to narrow down the options (we decided on graco because of features, affordability, and decent reviews online), then just waited for a good deal!

I second the IKEA furniture. I remember when I was a kid I did not take care of my stuff, stickers, boogers, juice, crayons etc. I think buying a nice expensive bed set for highschool is my way of thinking.

Anyways, IKEA cribs generally also convert to toddler beds so it's even more affordable. And their stuff is pretty cute

We are not huge Ikea fans - had lots of issues with their bookcases. So when we registered at babies r us, we picked out a crib from there that will eventually convert to a full size bed. I liked how sturdy the bed felt and that it was made of what feels like real wood and not plastic.

At babies r us, they also give you so many discounts and a gift card after all your registered items are bought. (I think it's like 10% or 5% of the total items bought is put in a gift card for more babies r us stuff) which will be useful later, as kids always need more stuff.

I wasn't a fan of the Ikea style cribs either. But I didn't want to spend a fortune on something that may not be used for very long. We found a crib by Million Dollar Baby. I priced it through several websites and stores. I eneded up getting it for under $300 on Wayfair. Also, if you are a first time buyer on Wayfair, you can get an extra 10% off, free shipping and no tax. They have several cribs on there. If you see one you like, try to find a local store where you can actually see it in person, but then order from the website if it is a better deal. We are happy with the crib we chose and the brand had good ratings in the Baby Bargains Book.

I'm having twins so $ was a factor as was fitting two in the nursery. I also opted for IKEA Sundvik. I couldn't justify the cost of other cribs when they are used for a short period time --plus needing two after gigantic IF bills.. I decided first on the colors of the nursery (Coral, grey and mint) and then went to look for furniture. Found a grey crib that I FELL IN LOVE with. If it wasn't for the grey, I probably would have gone with white. I think figuring our your "theme" or colors will help move you along

I was/as so overwhelmed with baby stuff as a FTM in general. I actually already started a hidden Amazon Baby Registry and started to add stuff to it yesterday. Not going to lie and most of my stuff is the #1 purchased stuff in that category for babies at the moment. I figured it would give a good starting point and I can always switch it, etc.

@grateful&thankful I registered for the mattress @Mrs.Mcirish bought! It fits the dimensions listed on the IKEA bed. My sister in law had this mattress and she likes it for her little one!

Oddly, this was one of the easiest decisions for me. We got one from Pottery Barn that was on sale for $200...it looks like the IKEA one already posted. I think the hardest part is picking a color, after that they are all rated for safety etc so you will be fine with whatever you choose

We picked ours out on Amazon since it was easier for us (we're 45 minutes even from a Target or Walmart, 75 minutes from a BRU that sucks). It had fabulous reviews and free shipping and is made by Delta.

All cribs sold in the US are held to high safety standards, so I wasn't too concerned about that. After that, it's just aesthetics. I liked a slightly higher or curved back to the crib as we are putting it against a wall, and we wanted white. I also didn't want a ton of bolts showing from the front. Voila, Delta's crib on Amazon worked perfectly at around $260!

We picked out a foam mattress on Amazon as well. It was around $60.

I also used the Baby Bargains book to make sure I was getting good value. They recommend foam mattresses.

For ds we went with the graco Lauren. I ordered it from amazon, the first one did come damaged so I did have to ship it back. It was about $150 and ds has never spent a night in it.

For the twins I'm not getting another one till I know I'm going to use it. If i do get another I'll prob just get one from ikea.

@LO95 and others interested in low VOC, most of that comes from the finishes. There's a really inexpensive Ikea crib that comes unfinished, so you can just put linseed oil or similar on it for a no-VOC option. I've seen this one referenced on a lot of hippie mom sites and blogs as a popular option. I'm not sure what we're doing about this yet, but I thought I'd share.

Yeah, the Sniglar is pretty ugly, IMHO, but I never like the look of Ikea stuff. Just NMS. When I linked to this earlier, one of the blogs recommended this one, which is in my amazon cart for reference:

The trouble is that "lead and phthalate SAFE" clause, which isn't acceptable for some moms. They want lead and phthalate FREE.

Not a fan of the ikea stuff. We opted for a convertible bed. I get that it might not make it to a full size, but it should make it at least through toddler. And if it isn't banged up, can always use as a full in a guest room even if we don't keep it for the little one.
I found a great website simplybabyfurniture.com that shipped for free no taxes outside of CA and had some great deals going on. At least a couple of hundred $$ cheaper than BRU or Tar.get. They have all sorts of stuff to choose from. And shopping in PJs from my couch wasn't bad either!
As far as the low VOC stuff, everything I could find to read said the same as PP...it depends on the finish. But even if you got something painted, if you set it up ahead of time and leave it out, all those should dissipate with sufficient time

It is very overwhelming.

I picked the color and budget first. I wanted white cribs for no more then $300 each (yellow/grey/white nursery). I also wanted to be able to buy the matching dresser and glider. We are going to go with cribs from Target I think.

The nursery was something I wanted to go all out on since this will very likely be my only pregnancy.

My mom and mil is gifting a crib each for my girls, so that helped out a bunch with my nursery budget.
