Medicine and recently pregnant

hi all,
I was wondering if it's alright to take cold medicine while I'm pregnant. I'm about 2 weeks in (very early). Any suggestions are welcome. I don't want to take something I shouldn't.

  • @gonzir‌, I would contact your doctor to see what they recommend. If they tell you not to take whatever it is you're taking right now then they can tell you what is safe to take.

  • 2 weeks?  Like you had your period 2 weeks ago or you ovulated 2 weeks ago?  Have you had a positive test?

  • What crazycupcake said. You are usually 4 weeks by the time you find out.
Also, I personally would be uncomfortable taking any medication in the first tri. I also wouldn't rely on internet strangers for advice in medicine. Call your doctor.

  • I would ask your dr.  I generally try to stay away from any kind of medication when pregnant

  • Definitely call your doctor. To me, it wouldn't be worth taking something and risking my baby's safety.

Yeah, this. Not quite sure what you mean?
Generally, Tylenol is safe to take.
And yes- nasal rinse like someone said! Neti pot works great. Or saline nasal spray.
Gargle warm salt water if you have a sore throat.
  • Call your doctor, and/or ask the pharmacist. :)

  • I recently saw my primary care physician because I had a terrible cold and she said only Benedryl and Tylenol are safe to take. All other cold medicines are not safe at any point in pregnancy. Benedryl does help with breathing at night. Of course I do agree with the rest that you should ask your doctor! Hope this helps.
  • Same thing happened with me, I didn't know what to do so I just waited it out and drank tons of water! I was extremely tired on top of the exhaustion from the pregnancy so I barely moved for a week. I also used the shower as a humidifier to clear out my congestion.
